    Legal and Recovery Officer

    • The overall purpose of this role is to ensure that legal documents are prepared and executed in a timely, orderly manner and bad debt recovery is enhanced in line with the company credit policy which may include but not limited to customer visit, repossession of supplied goods and auction of client’s assets attached to debtors.

    ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Credit Control Operations. (30% Weightage)

    • Drafting various business contracts and follow up for execution by the relevant authorities.
    • Regularly attend court proceedings on behalf of the organization as per external advocates schedule.
    • Update and maintain customers’ electronic file and physical files for ongoing and closed litigation matters.
    • Prepare witness statements and any other legal related documents for employees’ representing the companies for execution.

    Monitoring External Advocates Performance (30% Weightage)

    • Ensure that litigation matters are appropriately assigned to external advocates in a competitive basis.
    • Regularly provide report on legal matters to departmental head for decision making.
    • Properly documents legal expenses and ensure that settlement is done by the respective companies as per agreed terms.
    • Carry out annual performance review for the panel of advocates and recommend to retain/drop based on annual ratings to departmental head.

    Bad Debt Recovery (40% Weightage).

    • Proactively engage legal clients through appointed advocates for won cases in order to achieve optimal recovery.
    • Ensure that auctioneers services on recovery through attached assets are efficient and reliable.
    • Make concerted efforts to directly recover amount owed by regular visits and issuance of legal letters in line with internal credit policy.
    • Involve relevant stakeholders on high risk accounts and initiate early recovery measures.
    • Achieves optimal recovery on assigned bad debt matters.
    • Develop recovery strategy for each case and follow up implementation of the approved strategy to ensure maximum recovery are made in line with the business strategies.
    • Ensure that present and future departmental recovery objectives are achieved by maximizing the recovery on Written off accounts.

    Requirements:

    • Post Graduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law (Advocate of the High Court).
    • Bachelor's degree in Law.
    • GPA of at least 3.00/4.00 OR Second Class - Upper Qualification.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong legal documentation skills.
    • Strong client/ relationship management skills
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
    • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
