    Senior Data Analyst and Compliance Officer

    About the Job:

    • The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the collection and analysis of a large quantity of data reported by financial service providers to the Kenya Bankers Association (KBA); effectively communicating the data standards and structure to partners as well as providing technical support to new partners on the reporting mechanisms including API based reporting and bulk file upload systems; and communicating directly with reporting entities and ensuring compliance in the reporting of data.
    • The candidate will also be responsible for creating and managing data analysis products, including interactive dashboards (using Tableau, or any other recommended tool) designed around use cases of data contributors. The candidate will be responsible for supporting the creation of a range of communications to effectively convey the insights generated by the data collected.

    Responsibilities:

    • Interpreting the business needs of customers, both internal and external, and translating them into analytic tools to support decision making. This may involve supporting the creation of use cases, collecting feedback from banks to inform the process, generation of insights, supporting workshops or other learning events for sector stakeholders in the effective use of data for decision making, exploratory and custom analysis and the creation of periodic insight reports
    •  Ensuring data compliance from reporting entities, supporting partners with queries regarding reporting standards and definitions and providing technical support to ensure efficient and secure data transfers;
    • Gathering information from multiple sources and critically evaluating it, reconciling conflicts, disseminating high-level information and distinguishing user requests from their true needs;
    • Communicating and collaborating proactively with external and internal customers to analyse information needs and functional requirements and deliver use cases, analytic tools and interface designs as and when required;
    • Sourcing data to contextualise and add value to internal data. This could involve the integration of demographic, economic or other sociopolitical data into the analytical tools;
    • Creation, management and updating of data analysis dashboards using Tableau, or any other recommended tools.
    • Management of data transfer via standard APIs ensuring seamless integration and security.
    • Ensuring data and system security; and
    • Ensuring proactive adherence to data protection policies and standards.

    Preferred Experience:

    • Experience in working with large datasets, analysis and insight generation using highly disaggregated (and specifically gender disaggregated) data via the creation of interactive dashboards and other knowledge products;
    • A demonstrated ability to generate insights which can inform policy and product development;
    • Experience with the Kenyan financial sector, or other connected economic development sector in an analyst role;
    • Experience working with both data driven private sector product development and public sector policy creation;
    • Experience analysing and supporting institutions to use gender disaggregated data to develop gender smart products and policies; an
    • Data collection and management experience including the use of APIs to transfer data and the use of data management and analysis softwares (such as Tableau).

    Qualifications:

    • Graduate level degree in a relevant field (Economics, finance, statistics, or related field);
    • A self-starter, with the ability to deliver high quality work, and adapt to new challenges;
    • Experience in successfully delivering high-quality solutions, using project management best practices and disciplines;
    • Ability to liaise with senior level stakeholders to communicate project progress, issues, risks and solutions;
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills;
    • Excellent data analysis and presentation skills;
    • Experience with managing high volume data collection systems;
    • Experience with managing and compliance with data protection and data security
    • Ability to interact with senior management and drive communication.

    Required Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience as a data analyst, business analyst or data manager.
