    Fundraising and Giving Advisor

    Objectives

    • By the end of this consultancy, you will have coached our Fundraising and Giving Manager and other Amnesty International Kenya staff to map constituencies with a current or potential interest and affinity with our new mission and Strategic Plan, design a comprehensive three-year funding strategy, organizational change management plan and new systems we require to move to the next level.

    Expected Outcomes

    • An ambitious three-year funding plan with indicative fundraising targets and pathways towards a more sustainable portfolio that locks in individual giving, legacy and high value funding relationships.
    • Clear organizational change plan that leverages our Kenyan board, supporters, staff and allies.
    • New and responsive accountability and reporting systems that deliver high quality human rights impact.
    • Closer funding partnerships between our International Secretariat and National sections across the world.

    Timelines and Location

    The assignment is envisaged to take place over roughly 50 days between February 1 by 31 June 2024. The consultant may work from their home location but should be willing to travel internationally.

    Profile of the Consultant

    • Human rights, social justice or development related fundraising, organizational development specialist.
    • Excellent practical understanding of human rights related fundraising, international development funding, individual giving and funding partnerships management.
    • Demonstrated experience of designing fundraising strategies that have consistently delivered upwards of USD 1 million from institutional funders and individual givers.
    • Excellent sense of enquiry, interpersonal and coaching skills and adaptability.
    • Ability to analyze data and anecdotes and write concise, readable, and analytical funding reports.

    Fundraising Manager

    KEY RELATIONSHIPS

    • Managers, all staff, Board Members, Specific Staff with the Amnesty International Secretariat and Funding Partners with related responsibilities and areas of work  

    MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Write and manage fundraising strategy that leverages organisation-wide resources and relationships (20%)
    • Cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of high-net-worth individual donors (50%)
    • Building a robust donor base by developing and maintaining long-term relationships with funders through community outreach, accurate and regular reporting, and marketing activities. (20%)
    • Building capacity for clear reporting and accountability by improving fundraising platforms, improving systems and processes to support the fundraising growth of the organization. (10%)

    A change-maker with a passion and understanding of human rights, you will ensure all Amnesty fundraising initiatives and actions are underpinned by our theory of change by;

    • Designing and managing participatory dialogues, public events and social mass media engagement to design and retain relevance of Amnesty’s fundraising model for existing and potential supporters.
    • Proactively growing fundraising across diversified income streams from like-minded funding institutions, philanthropists and individuals who give.
    • Establishing approaches, policies and systems that attract, engage, and retain loyal donors and giving supporters.
    • Establishing accountability reporting systems and products that communicate value for money powerfully and transparently to institutional and individual donors.
    • Engage and support other Amnesty initiatives nationally, regionally, and globally to build comparative understanding and synergies across the Amnesty movement.

    ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

    • A minimum of an undergraduate university degree.
    • At least eight years’ experience in fundraising in at least one of the following areas namely, public sector partnerships, major donors, trusts/foundations or corporate fundraising.
    • At least three years’ fundraising experience in an international setting ideally with an international organization and with experience in Africa.
    • Experience of creating and implementing a fundraising strategy that has secured at least USD 1 million.
    • Experience and expertise in developing relationships with institutional donors, high net worth individuals or corporations.
    • Strong diplomatic skills with sensitivity to political and cultural issues.
    • High ethical standards of ethical behavior, good judgment, respect for others, confidentiality, and attention to detail.
    • Demonstrable analytical, numerical, and budgetary skills including preparing fundraising budgets and proficient use of excel and spreadsheets.
    • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills in a multicultural environment.
    • Demonstrated extensive experience in influencing and contributing to strategic decision making and providing advice to the rest of senior management, board and other stakeholders.
    • Adheres to Amnesty International Kenya’s values which are integrity, courageous solidarity, inclusivity and Innovative Creativity.

    DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

    • Experience working in the human rights and social justice environment.
    • Knowledge of and demonstrated experience of working with the Kenyan diaspora.
    • Proven track record of generating significant grants and gifts in the region of USD 3 Million
    • Fundraising experience in markets other than Kenya.

    Senior Protection Officer

    KEY RELATIONSHIPS

    • Managers, all staff, Specific International Secretariat Staff

    MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

    The purpose of the job is to establish and coordinate our protection programme for persons at risk. This position includes the elaboration and implementation of an efficient case management system and the planning and organization of all safety and protection support. This includes.

    • Coordinating protection programme and case management system that provides timely, consistent, and effective protection and relocation options for people at risk including refugees, survivors of violence and human rights defenders among others.
    • Providing thought-leadership in line with international human rights and refugee standards that links humanitarian principles with justice-based organising that seeks redress for victims and survivors.
    • Expanding and holding effective relationships with key partners, relevant authorities and persons that can enhance our protection programme.
    • Developing and being the primary focal point for Standard Operating Procedures for all protection incidents and initiatives.
    • Build staff confidence, capacities, advise and provide oversight to ensure staff and workplace online and physical safety in consultation with Finance Administration Manager and other staff.

    WHAT DOES SUCCESS LOOK LIKE IN THIS JOB?

    • Amnesty Kenya demonstrates value for money and generates new human rights organising from our own activities and those of partners and circles of learning.
    • Evidence based and data driven analysis increases in our decision and external communications.
    • High quality annual and quarterly reports punctually submitted to the membership, Board, the International Secretariat, funding partners and the public.
    • Integrated systems operate effectively even in the absence of the officer.

    EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

    ESSENTIAL:

    • A degree in social sciences, management, law or another appropriate discipline
    • At least 3 years of previous relevant job experience
    • Knowledge of case-management, risk analysis and range of risk management strategies
    • Demonstrated experience of designing, managing protection and safety support programmes
    • Demonstrated experience of coaching and empowering clients on physical and cyber-safety
    • Excellent risk analysis and response understanding

    DESIRABLE

    • Demonstrated experience of coordinating organizational safety awareness and training programmes
    • Demonstrated experience of protecting persons from both state and civic discrimination and violence based on their gender, sexuality, statelessness or any other identity.
