Financial Planning & Analysis - Lead Analyst - Tech Sector

    • We are hiring a Financial Planning & Analysis Lead to play a key part leading our monthly business reviews, quarterly forecasting, annual planning, and drive cross-functional business alignment. Our ideal candidate is a highly analytical independent thinker and mentor, who has a proven record of leadership and the intrinsic motivation to use data to advise on critical financial, commercial and strategic decisions.
    • As a global software company delivering the entire open source portfolio, our business is much more complex than an equivalently sized regional or national company in other industries. That complexity is warranted because of the scale of the opportunity we have to become a significant part of the Global 2000 software supply chain for infrastructure and applications. We also choose to work in a truly distributed, truly global fashion, which requires us to work in many currencies and again requires additional sophistication in our financial planning, modelling and analysis. We are investing in FP&A to give ourselves a competitive advantage and insights that will shape strategy and operations in multiple teams.

Location: Our finance team is based in EMEA and Americas time zones, this position is home based anywhere between UTC/GMT+2 and GMT-6.
What your day will look like

    • Develop dashboards and reports including Board materials, monthly financial results and other management presentations
    • Analyse & report monthly results, leading indicators and KPIs to support monthly forecasting and annual plan attainment
    • Provide commercial analysis, develop growth targets, and evaluate strategic initiatives
    • Work with product managers to produce, aggregate, and distribute market insights and competitive intelligence
    • Manage financial models, including budget, forecast and long range plans
    • Design processes, methodologies, and models to ensure low variance budget to actual
    • Support month end close, flux review processes, and financial reports
    • Design and drive initiatives to enhance systems, processes, and data accuracy
    • Support the IPO process, including the production of investor materials and public filings
    • Develop and mentor colleagues within the FP&A team, as well as peer teams
    • Review department spend, procurement strategies, and business wide process efficiency

What we are looking for in you

    • Exceptional academic track record from both high school and university
    • Undergraduate degree in a technical subject or a compelling narrative about your alternative chosen path
    • Confidence to respectfully speak up, exchange feedback, and share ideas without hesitation
    • Track record of going above-and-beyond expectations to achieve outstanding results
    • Experience and a deeply rooted passion to mentor team members, and aid in peer career growth
    • Have operated in a high growth, multi currency/geography technology business with a mixed go-to-market motion
    • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
    • Highest ethical standards, integrity, authenticity, credibility, and character
    • Curiosity and willingness to work on a wide range of projects
    • Proficiency in spreadsheets and financial modeling
    • Understanding of core accounting principles

    • Passionate, thoughtful, and self-motivated
    • Appreciative of diversity, polite and effective in a multi-cultural, multi-national organisation
    • Thoughtfulness and self-motivation
    • Result-oriented, with a personal drive to meet commitments
    • Ability to travel internationally twice a year, for company events up to two weeks long

Graduate ESG Compliance Counsel or ESG Compliance Officer - Tech Sector

    • We are hiring an ESG Compliance Officer or ESG Compliance Counsel into our wider compliance team with responsibility for ESG compliance and reporting, and the opportunity to shape our ESG commitments, outlook and strategy. We are looking for a rigorous and effective lawyer, or scientifically qualified ESG officer, to drive reporting and practices associated with ESG regulatory and legal compliance process, policy and activities. In this appointment we are more focused on ability than experience, the position is open to applicants with relevant degrees but does not have a requirement for extensive experience. The successful candidate will work closely with experienced Canonical and external legal counsel in Europe and the USA, and with Canonical personnel worldwide.
    • Our unusually distributed nature provides us with one obvious sustainability challenge - we fly colleagues to meet in person at large company events twice a year. Bring globally distributed also means that questions of sustainability take place against a global backdrop - we don't by and large have a particular 'local' context. Beyond that, though, we have significant opportunity to influence sustainability in tech because so much of the software stack today is open source. Our goal is to be the majority supplier of this software in the world, and so we are in position to move the needle on that entire stack.
    • This is an opportunity to contribute to the strategy, positioning and processes in an important area for a dynamic technology business across multiple jurisdictions. Candidates must be able to demonstrate good commercial judgment as well as being organised, efficient, and capable to provide high quality legal and compliance outcomes. We are open to candidates who come from either a legal background, or a scientific background featuring environmental, biodiversity, sustainability or related disciplines. In both cases, we are looking for a rigorous work ethic, detailed analysis and reporting, conscientiousness to ensure correct compliance, and insights to identify opportunities to exceed the necessary. We do not see this as a defensive legal investment so much as a proactive investment in the ideas, analysis, research and driving leadership needed to be a pace-setting in our industry on carbon and other sustainability priorities.

Location: This role can be home based in Europe, Middle East or Africa time zones, or based in our London office at Tower Bridge.
What your day will look like

    • Report to our global general counsel or a dedicated regulatory compliance manager
    • Focus on our net-zero carbon footprint goal, but also consider broader sustainability goals and requirements
    • Assess our ESG position and propose initiatives, processes or engagements to achieve goals
    • Analyze and implement regulatory initiatives, draft and implement relevant policies and procedures
    • Map and track changes in regulatory rules and requirements
    • Document and train colleagues in regulatory matters for awareness and compliance
    • Report on ESG compliance on a quarterly and annual basis
    • Review and maintain existing processes and policies to ensure compliance
    • Work with local counsel in many countries to seek and implement advice

What we are looking for in you

    • An exceptional academic track record from both high school and university
    • An undergraduate degree in ESG-related law, science or a similarly qualified profession
    • Drive and a track record of going above-and-beyond expectations
    • Analytical ability to model scenarios from a business and scientific perspective (for example, carbon emissions related to PC usage)
    • Knowledge of corporate sustainability, corporate responsibility, or ESG best practices
    • Interest in current and emerging UK and US ESG regulatory regimes, reporting frameworks, disclosure requirements and standards
    • A passion for technology evidenced by personal initiatives and projects
    • Professional written and spoken English with excellent drafting and presentation skills
    • Confidence to respectfully speak up, exchange feedback, and share ideas without hesitation
    • Appreciative of diversity, polite and effective in a multi-cultural multi-national organisation
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability
    • Thoughtfulness and self-motivation
    • Result-oriented, with a personal drive to meet commitments
    • Ability to travel twice a year, for company events up to two weeks long

    Additional Skills We Value

    • Experience in software engineering, numerical or data analytics
    • Leadership and the ability to influence others to embrace new ideas or practices
    • Understanding of the open source software community and values
    • Understanding of the technology industry - silicon, data centers, PCs, connected devices, and software

    Head of Corporate Operations

    • The company is founder led, profitable and growing. We are hiring a Head of Corporate Operations to lead efficient and effective travel, logistics, event, scheduling, expense policy and administration.
    • This executive role requires chief-of-staff level coordination, planning, decision-making, budgeting, procurement, reporting and management. It is a fast-paced and complex operation in the tech industry.
    • With most colleagues working from home and a firm commitment to regular face time for teams, it is necessary for us to coordinate large-scale company events which involve travel for hundreds of people from 70+ countries to locations around the world. We run such events four times a year, a significant investment in our ability to shape culture, teamwork, execution plans and strategy. Our corporate administration team is responsible for travel procurement and logistics, ensuring that these events run efficiently and safely. Visas, travel complications and unexpected situations make this a complex operation to run efficiently, demanding a rigorous approach and high work ethic in the team.
    • This team also sets expense policy and serves as an independent check on expense claim approval, ensuring fairness and consistency across teams and countries. This requires a firm commitment to integrity, transparency and accountability, and a willingness to set and politely defend the same expectations of the most senior and most junior colleagues.
    • Together these responsibilities amount to tens of millions in operational costs and a significant number of tactical and operational decisions.
    • In addition, this team handles traditional 'EA' services for company leads, though they do this across departments and as a consistent service rather than as personal assistants; they set and deliver to expectations on specific kinds of work. They schedule meetings, coordinate monthly reports, handle delegated approvals for travel and expenses, work across teams, coordinate with suppliers, and run small projects or initiatives.
    • Location: We expect to fill this role in the Europe, Middle East or African time zone. This role reports to the COO.

    Leadership and accountability

    • This team has a direct impact on every team at Canonical. It is important for them to have excellent judgment and interpersonal skills, the confidence to hold people accountable and defend positions of policy, and the work ethic to move quickly through a large volume of work. It is also essential that the team participate in every company event, from the planning and venue selection stages to scheduling, operations and safety reviews, to ensure that they establish personal relationships with team leaders and can ensure these events run smoothly.
    • Drive travel procurement, logistics and operations to create in-person team sprints four times a year
    • Set travel and expense policies in line with company value and ensure their correct application and administration
    • Select venues and plan for complex company events four times a year
    • Select, contract, design and operate company offices to provide executive briefing and operational facilities
    • Develop global duty of care, health and safety programs with comprehensive policies and practices for events, offices and home-based workers
    • Select and manage a global team with leaders in every time zone to deliver professional and timely services

    What we are looking for

    • An exceptional academic track record from both high school and university
    • An undergraduate degree in a technical or business subject
    • Drive and a track record of going above-and-beyond expectations
    • Leadership and management skills
    • Demonstrable good judgement in matters involving money, policy and in-person interactions
    • Experience using technology for collaboration and productivity in the work environment
    • Ability to work in a global, multicultural organisation
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility
    • Responsibility, accountability, thoughtfulness and self-awareness
    • Result-oriented, with a personal drive to meet commitments
    • Ability to travel up to four times a year, for company events up to two weeks long
