Kibabii University is a public university in Kenya located in Bungoma County along Bungoma-Chwele highway.
KIBU/ADM/07/12/2016: ASSISTANT ACCOUNTANT (SCALE 9) – 1 POST
Requirements
For appointment to this position, the applicant must have:
- A pass in part II of the CPA Examination or it’s recognized equivalent qualifications;
- B.Com (Accounting or Finance option), Business Administration/Management (Accounting option) from a recognized institution or any other relevant equivalent qualification;
- Certified Payroll Professional designation preferred, knowledge of accounting principles and practices, In-depth knowledge and experience of payroll calculation and processing;
- Managerial/supervisory experience;
- Knowledge of applicable local, state and county rules and laws;
- Proficiency in relevant payroll and accounting software, Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulatory requirements, Working knowledge relevant computer applications , Spread sheet usage, Knowledge of data management and financial data analysis.
- Registration with relevant professional body;
- ICT competence
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Reporting to Expenditure Accountant, the incumbent will be tasked with the following duties and responsibilities:
- Preparation and verification/examination of vouchers in accordance with the laid down rules and regulations involving payroll primary data entry and routine accounting work
- Supervising and co-coordinating activities of payroll staff;
- Managing payroll workload to meet operational requirements;
- Ensuring payroll is processed in an accurate, compliant and timely manner;
- Directing the preparation of payroll related documents;
- Facilitating administer benefit plans;
- Overseeing compliance with statutory reporting and filing requirements;
- Compiling data from payroll sources;
- Preparing relevant weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end reports;
- Preparing and review payroll account reconciliations;
- Maintaining accurate account balances;
- Overseeing the maintenance of current employee data systems;
- Ensuring all payroll information and records are maintained in accordance with statutory requirements;
- Supporting all internal and external audits related to payroll;
- Processing payroll checks for staff;
- Interpreting new legislation impacting payroll;
- Managing and resolving issues relating to payroll production;
- Managing and developing payroll staff;
- Ensuring statutory deductions are effected; and
- Undertaking such other assignments as may be assigned from time to time by the Finance Officer or his authorized officer.
NB:
- Those with qualifications from outside East Africa’s chartered universities
- MUST show evidence of their qualifications recognition and equation by the Commission of University Education (CUE).
- Successful applicants for teaching positions will be expected to teach at undergraduate level, initiate and direct relevant research projects and participate in the implementation of University extension services as well as departmental and field activities.

- Clearance from Credit Reference Bureau
- Criminal Investigation Department (Certificate of Good Conduct)
- Letters of recommendation from at least three persons familiar with the applicant’s professional experience and character in general should also be sent to the address below before 31st January, 2017 by 5 pm.
