YOUR POSITION WITH TNC
The Program Coordinator will help manage and coordinate our MSP and marine conservation work over large-scale geographic areas. Current focal countries include Kenya, Tanzania, Seychelles, Mauritius, and Mozambique. The Program Coordinator helps implement and coordinate a wide-ranging set of work under the Africa Oceans Strategy, covering a diverse set of duties spanning such categories as: organizational, communications, external outreach, TNC representation, writing/editing, research, and analysis, and meeting with national government representatives. This position is based in Mombasa, Kenya but may involve travel within the Western Indian Ocean nations.
Essential Functions
The Program Coordinator, reporting to Africa Oceans Strategy Director, will primarily help coordinate activities and meetings relating to MSP in Kenya, Tanzania, and Mauritius under the German IKI funds and TNC’s TED Audacious Project. Program Coordinator will also help on science-to-management projects focused on coral reefs and mangroves, and with work on improving marine management effectiveness.
The Program Coordinator will coordinate meetings with government representatives and partners (including communication, event organization, invitations, and organizing travel approvals for partners), help develop presentations and other outreach materials for partners and governments on MSP, take notes and summarize results of meetings, conduct research on global MSP best practices, and manage schedules of MSP events across nations. The Program Coordinator will help prepare activity reports for donors and develop a wide range of communication materials about MSP and other ocean conservation activities under this strategy. He/She will help track deadlines and chains of communication with key government and other partners. He/She will also help manage and track program budgets and will help ensure compliance with internal policies on all program activities and aspects as the program expands. The Program Coordinator will attend and represent TNC at various meetings. This position will be delegated to by Africa Oceans Strategy Director.
