    Administrative Assistant, G6

    Responsibilities

    This position is located within the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Environment Statistics Unit of the Early Warning and Assessment Division at the Nairobi Duty Station. Under the direct supervision of the Head of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Environment Statistics Unit, and within delegated authority, the incumbent will perform the following duties:

    • Assists in support of planning and implementation of activities / processes for the environment statistics and accounting programme.
    • Assists in liaising with National Statistical Offices and other line Ministries to obtain necessary statistical and other relevant information and responds to queries / requests.
    • Assists in liaising with the United Nations System Organizations on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) indicators reporting and other environmental indicator frameworks.
    • Responds to internal / external requests for capacity development on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) indicators and environment statistics at regional and national level.
    • Assists in the coordination of programme / project planning and preparation; monitors status of programme / project proposals; takes necessary action to ensure project documents are completed and submitted to relevant parties for approval.
    • Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making.
    • Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures.
    • Research, compiles, analyses, summarizes, and presents basic information / data on specific programmes / project and related topics.
    • Prepares, maintains and updates files (electronic and paper) and internal databases; designs and generates a variety of periodic and ad hoc reports, statistical tables, graphic content, and other background materials /notes.
    • Maintains/updates SDG web pages on WESR, UNEP.org and WeCollaborate portal.
    • Assembles and examines original statistical material to ensure accuracy, clarity, validity and makes appropriate adjustments.
    • Prepare standard terms of reference against programme / project objectives, obtain necessary clearances, process and follow-up on administrative actions and resolve issues related to project implementation, e.g., recruitment and appointment of personnel, travel arrangements, organization of and participation in training workshops.
    • Serves as focal point for coordination, monitoring and expedition of programme / project implementation activities, involving extensive liaison with diverse organizational units.
    • Drafts programme / project summaries, coordinates review and clearance process, and coordinates with editor, translation services, etc. on finalization and publication of reports in multiple languages.
    • Drafts correspondence and communications related to all aspects of programme / project implementation, including contractual and other related issues, as well as prepares unit contributions for a variety of periodic reports and newsletters.
    • Provide support to other Units in the Early Warning and Assessment Division on environment statistics, including for publications and communications.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Education

    • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

    Work Experience

    • A minimum of seven (7) years' experience in programme or project administration, technical cooperation, or related area is required.
    • Experience working with Microsoft Office 365 and content management system is desirable.
    • Experience in statistics, computer science, database management or related area is desirable.
    • One (1) year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.

    Languages

    • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.
