    Assistant Director, Strategic Programmes - 11 Positions

     Duties and Responsibilities
     Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail: -

    • Developing review and implement strategies for promotion of livelihood support and resilience in ASALs;
    • Undertaking capacity development for the improvement of livelihood support programmes and diversification of resources;
    • Promoting of innovation technologies in food and fodder production in ASALs;
    • Developing framework to facilitate efficient and effective coordination of responses against drought and desertification;
    • Conducting market research and market linkages for ASAL livestock products;
    • Verifying information, education and communication materials for dissemination;
    • Providing technical guidance and capacity building support in the area of specialization;
    • Providing input in the development of National, regional economic blocks and county development plans for ASALs;
    • Undertaking research and providing innovative strategies on ASAL development issues;
    • Monitoring and evaluating the implementation of programmes and projects;
    • Initiating development of project proposals and design for funding purposes;
    • Liaising with other government institutions and stake holders on resources assessment, mapping, resources mobilization, allocation, and preparing inventory;
    • Promoting linkages with stakeholders on ASAL issues;
    • Identifying emerging trends and proposing appropriate strategies for managing ASAL development  issues;
    • Partner with Investors in development of resources and infrastructure in ASALs.

    For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have;

    • Served for a minimum period of two (2) years in the grade of Principal Strategic Programmes Officer, CSG  8, or  in a comparable and relevant position in the wider Public service;
    • A Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following disciplines; Human and Veterinary medicine; Natural Resource Management; Environmental Science; Business studies; Developmental Studies; Disaster Management  and Conflict Resolution; Education; Urban and Regional Planning: Economics & Statistics;  Agriculture; Livestock Production; Engineering; Geospatial/Geomatic; Information Science; Food Science and Nutrition; Project Planning/Management or equivalent qualification from a university recognized in Kenya; and
    • Demonstrated managerial, leadership and professional competence in work performance and results.
