    Consultant Instructional Designer, East Africa

    Specific Responsibilities Include

    In close collaboration with the EA Senior Facilitator, EA Hub staff, EA partner organizations, and WomenLift design team:

    • Design and develop culturally relevant original content based on WomenLift and partner organization’s needs. This includes:
    • Assess the needs of partner organizations to drive the content development process 
    • Align with WomenLift team and partner organizations on specific goals and outcomes that any module or curriculum is hoping to address 
    • Run ideation sessions 
    • Conduct research on content topics 
    • Design, develop, and finalize for publication all materials for original content modules such as facilitation guides, ppts, speaker notes, workbooks, reference guides, handouts, overviews of materials, etc.
    • This includes supporting finalization of other modules developed by WomenLift Health 
    • Contextualize and adapt pre-existing content for WomenLift and our partner organizations. 
    • As part of the design and contextualization process:
    • Use a human-centered design approach 
    • Ensure content is relevant to the needs and learning styles of specific institutions, health systems, and cultures. 
    • Track the changes made to pre-developed content in our contextualization mapping systems 
    • Reference our glossary and style guide for language guidance 
    • Share learnings and insights with the team throughout the process 
    • Identify and respond to East Africa Hub needs for the curricula to be expanded or go deeper to meet the needs of the audience 
    • Support development of communication materials related to the content 
    • Document lessons learned from specific institutions and document the common training needs across different institutions 
    • Contribute to monitoring, evaluation, and learning systems and processes 
    • Stay abreast of new learnings and best practices related to instructional design 

    Scope of Work

    • Ad hoc, based on project needs.
    • Work closely with East Africa Leadership Development and Communications team as well as the Cross-Regional Design team on an as-needed basis.
    • Time Frame for Guaranteed Scope of Work: beginning upon hire for 6 months; option to renew depending on performance

    Required Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Ability:

    • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in related field
    • Minimum 5 years’ experience in leadership training curriculum development for diverse, East African audiences 

    Expertise on Instructional Design, including:

    • Proven ability to independently design and develop curricula as well as processes, systems, and tools to prioritize, adapt, contextualize, and create instructional products for learners across different cultures 
    • Knowledge of learning theories and ID models, and how/when to employ them. 
    • Ability to apply and adjust ID models, and the skill to improve and refine them for future use. 
    • Ability to take a human-centered approach to instruction that places the learner at the center of the experience, matching desired outcomes with the needs of the learners. 
    • Have a strong command of the English language as it is written and spoken professionally both within East Africa and internationally 
    • Proven ability to collaborate and co-create within teams 
    • Depth of experience, maturity and confidence, ability to learn and adapt, befitting an instructional designer 
    • Proactive, self-starter, able to work independently while communicating important information and asking questions 
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Demonstrated success in following through and successfully completing projects in a timely manner
    • Value human connection and are strongly aligned with WomenLift Health’s Mission, Vision, Culture, and Values
    • Skill with Microsoft Office suite, Miro, Slack, email, and other technologies.

    Preferred (not Required) Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills And Ability

    • Master’s degree highly preferred 
    • Familiarity with and/or strong interest in public and/or global health, leadership development, and/or gender equality 
    • Instructional design experience for international audiences 
    • Knowledge of digital & online learning 
    • Facilitation experience 
    • Skill with Adobe suite of tools such as InDesign or Photoshop 
    • Fluency in additional languages, especially French or Swahili
