    Consultant - Pre-service Curriculum Review

    Scope of Work

    Reporting directly to the Senior Advisor- Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), the Consultant will coordinate the support to MOH  to sensitize training institutions (public, private, and faith-based), regulatory bodies, and professional bodies amongst other stakeholders on incorporation and alignment of the pre-service curriculum to the current informed decisions, current trends and emerging issues in reproductive health (maternal new-born health, family planning, health products technologies/commodities in reproductive health and adolescent youth sexual reproductive health), within a time-bound framework. To achieve this, the consultant will:

    • Complete a desk review of current pre-service curricula and materials to identify training needs and gaps that need to be addressed
      Working with the Ministry of Health and relevant stakeholders, coordinate the sensitization, review, and updating of pre-service curricula to include:
    • Maternal and newborn health (Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (EmONC); Post Abortion Care, Maternal Perinatal Death and Surveillance and Response (MPDSR); Self-Care Guidelines; Continuum of Care Package, Maternal New-born health commodities, Obstetric Point of Care Ultrasound, Maternal newborn health standards, Fistula training, National Guidelines for quality obstetrics and perinatal care; and Reproductive Health Policy). 
    • Family Planning (LNGIUS/ DMPA SC Orientation Package, Family Planning Training Packages (Module 1 – Family Planning, Module 2- Post-Partum Family Planning; and Module 3 – Voluntary Surgical Contraceptives); Health Products and Technologies Management); and 
    • Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health (Youth friendly training manual, Understanding Adolescence, and ASRH Parents & Caregivers’ Guideline) 
    • Working with the MOH, coordinate training for preservice and in-service trainers and service providers on the revised MOH updated guidelines.
    • Undertake other related duties as requested

    Deliverables:

    • Inception report on proposed approach and methodology to complete the scope of work
    • Gap Analysis report from the review of current curricula and training materials
    • Roadmap for the revision and updating of the pre-service curriculum
    • Facilitating the review and incorporation of updates into the preservice curriculum
    • Updated curriculum incorporating the new updates

    Educational Qualifications: 

    • Essential: University degree in Medicine (Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics); Nursing; Community medicine, Public Health or another related field from an accredited/recognized institute.
    • Desirable: Advanced degree in Medicine, Public Health

    Experience

    • Essential: At least ten 9-10 years of progressively responsible professional experience in Sexual, Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, and Adolescent Health (SRMNAH) 
    • Desirable: Considerable experience in the delivery of SRMNAH national and county level trainings, developing curriculum and training materials and other materials, facilitating training with various stakeholders including health care workers, training institutions, ministry of Health; relevant work experience with WHO and/or UN agencies.
