    Gender and Disability Inclusion Intern

    Responsibilities

    Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background; the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period.

    Under the supervision of the unit head, the intern will:
    Provide support in organizing and conduction of meetings relevant to the work of the unit, including drafting of documents, preparation for and backstopping of meetings, and follow-up activities.Assist in planning, preparing, and implementing HRSI related events (meetings, workshops, conferences, expert group meetings, community of practice meetings etc.) and support the implementation of specific recommendations arising from these events.
    Review and provide HRSI inputs on concept notes, publications, position papers, project documents and any other documents/materials to ensure their inclusion of all cross-cutting issues.
    Conduct research and analysis of global, regional, and national trends to support the implementation of the disability inclusion strategy.Support the work of the senior staff in ensuring that critical inter-agency coordination mechanisms address challenges to gender and disability inclusion that require system-wide solutions.Support resource mobilization in the area of disability inclusion by developing funding proposals and other documents where needed.Consolidate surveys, interviews, and data from focus group meetings to support the implementation of the disability inclusion strategy.Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Monitors ongoing developments inside and outside the clients' environment to keep informed and anticipate problems. Keeps clients informed of progress or setbacks in projects. Meets timeline for delivery of products or services to client.

    Education

    • Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
    • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
    • Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent.
    • Be computer literate in standard word processing and spreadsheets software applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel or similar.
    • Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;
    • Have demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
    • Preferred area of studies: Must be currently enrolled in the final year of a Bachelor's degree, or an advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in Gender Studies, Human Rights, Sociology, Anthropology, Political Science, Development Studies, Development Management or a related field.

    Work Experience

    • No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.
    • Working knowledge of crosscutting thematic issues such as disability inclusion, human rights, urban planning, gender, and inclusion of older persons is required.
    • Ability to plan, prepare and organize events, meetings, workshops, conferences, and expert groups meetings using key coordination tools (Microsoft teams, zoom, excel etc.) is desirable.
    • Demonstrated ability to carry out research for meetings, workshops, baseline studies, etc. is required.

    Languages

    • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
