    Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Graduate Intern for Gatsby’s Commercial Forestry Programme

    Key responsibilities

    • Develop and manage a holistic GIS database for forest planning and commercial decision making.
    • Conducting GIS analysis to develop key insights for influencing stakeholders.
    • Map production showing various data points to support the programme and branch.
    • Develop mapping applications and tools.
    • Work on GIS projects as assigned.
    • Create new GIS datasets based upon existing standards.
    • Edit existing Shapefiles, Geodatabases, & relational databases.
    • Acquire, download, correct, integrate, & document GPS data from the field to existing GIS datasets.
    • Data entry into a GIS related database.
    • Assist in map production using ESRI ArcGIS and other GIS tools.
    • Propose innovative ideas for the application of GIS to enhance OTI programming
    • Assist in any other roles as assigned by the programme.

    Experience and personal qualities required

    • Gatsby is looking for star-performers that have the following capabilities. The ideal applicants have the following skills and experience:
    • A recent graduate of Cartography, GIS, Geography, or related field with first class honors or second-class upper division.
    • Interest in a career in international development.
    • Familiarity with ESRI ArcGIS software required.
    • Knowledge of geospatial data from a wide array of sources.
    • Experience with data management best practices and data cleaning.
    • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Position requires the ability to work in high pressure situations under short deadlines.
    • Dynamism combined with a strong work ethic and a sense of initiative.
    • Ability to prepare technical reports & documents in a clear & concise manner.
    • Prior work experience is not mandatory but a similar role prior and after graduation is considered advantageous.
    • Experience with scripting languages such as python or statistical programming languages such as R is a plus
