    We are a coffee roaster based in Amsterdam, but we also roast in Kigali and Nairobi. Our main focus is to get coffee sourced from one farmer in Rwanda, and sell that to business in and around Amsterdam. We work together with Jean-Paul, a very passionate farmer from Cyangugu, Rwanda. We are in daily contact with him to ensure quality allround.

    Head Roaster

    Job Overview:

    • We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Head Roaster to join our team. This role is integral to our operations, requiring a versatile individual who is passionate about coffee and capable of handling a variety of tasks to ensure the smooth and successful running of our business. The ideal candidate will be a leader who takes initiative, works independently, and has a keen eye for quality and detail.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Coffee Roasting:

    • Perform and oversee all coffee roasting activities, ensuring consistency and quality in every batch.
    • Develop and refine roasting profiles to bring out the best characteristics of our beans.
    • Manage inventory of green and roasted coffee, ensuring optimal stock levels.
    • Safely operate the coffee roaster, adhering to all safety protocols and procedures.

    Quality Control:

    • Conduct regular espresso & cupping sessions to evaluate and maintain the highest quality standards.
    • Monitor and maintain quality control throughout the roasting process.
    • Implement and improve quality control procedures to ensure consistent product excellence.

    Barista Training:

    • Provide comprehensive training to customers' baristas, focusing on coffee preparation, brewing techniques, and customer service.
    • Stay updated with industry trends and new techniques to continuously improve training programs.

    Operational Support:

    • Assist in daily operations, including packaging, labeling, and order fulfillment.
    • Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the roasting and production areas.
    • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of roasting equipment.

    Leadership and Initiative:

    • Lead by example, fostering a culture of excellence, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
    • Take initiative to identify and address operational challenges and opportunities.
    • Work independently and proactively, with minimal supervision, to meet business goals.

    Sales and Customer Acquisition:

    • Actively participate in sales efforts to attract new customers and grow our client base.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with cafes, restaurants, and retail partners.
    • Represent Steans Beans Kenya at industry events, trade shows, and coffee expos to promote our products and services.
