    Humanitarian Policy & Advocacy Specialist

    About the role

    • The Humanitarian Policy & Advocacy Deployable Specialist will deploy, often at short notice, to support a CO responding to a particular emergency.
    • Ensure all humanitarian policy positions and policy and advocacy work and products have a clear focus on addressing the specific needs of young girls, adolescent girls and young women.
    • Develop an appropriate humanitarian policy and advocacy strategy.
    • Advise the CO on applicable humanitarian or relevant human rights international, regional, national, and local level legal and policy frameworks applicable to issues observed in the crisis
    • Identify and represent Plan International within key external fora in country and through developing, maintaining, and leveraging relationships as deemed strategic (UN, Clusters, HCT, Government, Donors, Peer agencies).
    • Coordinate all humanitarian advocacy work of Plan International related to the specific crisis – in country, region and globally.
    • Support operational research and subsequent writing of influencing papers, including policy briefs, op-eds, and internal briefing notes and talking points.  

    About your skills

    • Language skills: French, Spanish and Arabic particularly. Others like Hausa, Swahili, Portuguese are also welcomed. 
    • Strong writing skills Excellent communication skills
    • Ability to think strategically in the short, medium, and long-term.
    • Good knowledge of the CHS.
    • Skills in coordinating and facilitating advocacy implementation efforts by a large group of actors.
    • May be required, to work during late hours, weekends and holidays in order to ensure timely delivery of programmes.

    About you

    • Demonstrable and substantive experience (at least five years of experience) working in advocacy, policy or influencing roles.
    • Relevant experience working in fragile and conflict settings.
    • Experience working at country level, ideally in multiple countries and regions.
    • Extensive knowledge of humanitarian affairs and relevant legal and policy frameworks, as well as considerable experience in developing advocacy strategies and messages, especially in humanitarian contexts, combined with specific knowledge and experience on children's rights and gender in emergencies.
    • An in-depth understanding of the humanitarian architecture, coordination mechanisms and its various working groups, including experience of influencing within these structures is essential.
