    IB Science Teacher – Biology/ESS Teacher

    Role Summary

    • As​ a Science teacher you will be expected to deliver lessons that reflect the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the Diploma Programme (IB) curriculum at Aga Khan Academy Senior School, employ a variety of approaches and methodologies in teaching and instructing students, including an inquiry-based approach and differentiation strategies in the classroom; establish and maintain standards of student behaviour and approaches to learning; monitor, assess, support and report on student progress; collaborate with the Science Department Team and other staff; and effectively communicate with parents/guardians, along with the whole school community.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Collaboratively develop and implement a comprehensive Science curriculum that aligns with the IB standards and philosophy. This may involve designing units of study, lesson plans, and assessments that incorporate IB principles, including inquiry-based learning, interdisciplinary connections, and international-mindedness.
    • Provide inspirational Science teaching, across diverse grade levels, and cultivate students’ understanding, creativity, and skills to encompass theory, practical application, experimentation, and analytical comprehension.
    • Adapt teaching strategies and learning resources to meet students’ diverse needs, including those with different learning styles and special needs and provide additional support or challenge to ensure every learner thrives.
    • Use varied formative and summative assessments in line with the IB requirements to assess student understanding and provide useful feedback to learners and parents/guardians, check for understanding and fill in any gaps in learning, and accurately evaluate and report on the progress and attainment of each student.
    • Positively and regularly engage with parents/guardians to build a collaborative learning culture.
    • Demonstrate expert knowledge and understanding of the relevant subject and pedagogical instruction.
    • Effectively and regularly communicate with students, colleagues, and parents/guardians, including through email and the school information system.
    • Demonstrate integrity and high professional values and practices that align with AKAN and the IB.
    • Show profound commitment to ongoing professional growth and take on responsibility for fulfilling the vision and philosophy of the Aga Khan Academy, Nairobi and the International Baccalaureate.

    The requirements

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Bachelor of Education Science or an equivalent in the respective field.
    • TSC Certification.
    • 5 years of IB Middle Years Programme and/or IB Diploma.
