    Marine Program Manager

    Specifically, The Marine Program Manager, Angola Will

    • Lead the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the marine program for Angola, including Marine Spatial Planning incorporating marine protect areas, marine biodiversity policy reform, blue carbon, large-scale fisheries, coastal community-led conservation, and livelihood interventions consistent with the Africa Oceans Strategy and TNC Country Strategy.
    • Support TNC’s relationship with the national government regarding marine affairs, with aim to assist national blue economy conservation priorities and objectives.
    • Contribute to national level planning efforts that increase ocean conservation outcomes, including climate mitigation and resilience plans, marine spatial plans, and coastal zone plans.
    • Support efforts to create and advance community-led strategies for better managed coastal fisheries and marine areas.
    • Assist in developing reports, presentations, and assessments on related topics, as well as internal and external communications materials that reflect the program’s objectives and priorities.
    • Lead and manage local project team to support and improve marine conservation efforts.
    • Develop and work within a budget to complete projects.
    • Manage and actively support fundraising by contributing to concept notes and proposal writing, and representing the Africa Ocean Program where/when needed.
    • Support efforts to ensure that public and private funds are raised to meet program needs.
    • Build diplomatic cooperation and strategic partnerships to accomplish program goals.
    • Excellent facilitation and communication skills (both oral and written).
    • May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.
    • Frequently make independent decisions based on analysis, experience, and context.

    What You'll Bring

    • Experience in working in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.
    • Project management experience
    • Experience in development and implementation of online and in-person trainings and workshops.
    • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural experience are appreciated.
    • Experience implementing and reporting on activities funded by bilateral and multilateral funders.
    • Willingness and ability to undertake extended periods of field travel (at least 40%) domestically and internationally.

    ​​​​​​​Desired Qualifications

    • Advanced degree and over 7 years’ experience in (preferably marine) conservation practice or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Be politically savvy within the national and regional context
    • Excellent facilitation and communication skills (both oral and written).
    • Ability to frequently make independent decisions based on analysis, experience, and context.
    • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with the coastal fishing communities.
