    Phd Studentship - Nairobi

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Conducting fieldwork for data collection, including surveys and sample collection;
    • Conducting laboratory experiments to optimize ONT protocols for pathogen detection;
    • Utilizing ONT sequencing and bioinformatics tools to analyze genomic data and identify disease pathogens and antimicrobial resistance genes;
    • Participating in training sessions and workshops aimed at building research translation skills and promoting evidence-based policymaking;
    • Contributing to the dissemination of research findings through publications and presentations at national and international conferences.

    Vacancy Requirements:

    • Must have a MSc in Biochemistry/Microbiology/Molecular Biology/Biotechnology/Genomics/Epidemiology or any related biological science course from a recognized institution and should have registered for PhD in any of the above-mentioned fields;    Mandatory
    • Familiar with conducting extensive literature reviews;    Mandatory
    • Conversant with microbial culture techniques and molecular epidemiology;    Mandatory
    • Experience in Laboratory Techniques such as DNA extraction, PCR, and sequencing;    Mandatory
    • Proficiency in bioinformatics analysis, including scripting languages (e.g., Python, R) and relevant software tools;    Mandatory
    • Familiar with whole genome sequence technologies and applications;    Mandatory
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a passion for collaborative research.
