    Post-Doctoral Fellow -Farming Systems Analysis

    The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to recruit a Post-Doctoral Scientist to conduct analyses of farm-level datasets, in order to evaluate various agronomic, livestock, and livelihood interventions; ground-truth these in participatory research; provide strategic inputs to project design and evaluation.

    ILRI works to improve food and nutritional security and reduce poverty in developing countries through research for efficient, safe and sustainable use of livestock. It is the only one of 15 CGIAR research centres dedicated entirely to animal agriculture research for the developing world. Co-hosted by Kenya and Ethiopia, it has regional or country offices and projects in East, South and Southeast Asia as well as Central, East, Southern and West Africa. www.ilri.org

    Key Responsibilities

    • Conduct analysis and reporting of datasets obtained using the RHoMIS tools
    • Conduct targeted analyses as required for in-depth evaluation of R4D projects (e.g., AfricaRISING; ESSA; SI-MFS)
    • Conduct high-level research based on international datasets, evaluating trends in R4D interventions and development outcomes
    • Publication of the results of the research in peer-reviewed international journals
    • Develop replicable methods for appraisal of issues relating to dimensions of farm systems such as agro-ecological and/or food security
    • Develop partnerships with international and national research and development organisations
    • Contribute to the development of proposals and resource mobilization efforts
    • Perform any other related duties as may be required

    Requirements

    • PhD in farming systems research, agronomy with social science elements or relevant discipline
    • Two to four years of completing PhD
    • Strong quantitative analysis skills
    • Strong data handling skills (e.g., competence in R)
    • Participatory and mixed method research
    • Track record of publishing peer-reviewed articles
    • Extensive work experience in lower- and middle-income countries of Africa, Asia or Latin America
    • Excellent organisational and communication skills
