    Protection Intern - 33994

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    1. Stay abreast and monitor political, social, economic, and cultural developments that have an impact on the protection environment.
    2. Assist in providing comments on existing and draft legislation related to PoCs.
    3. Consistently apply International and National Law and applicable UN/UNHCR and IASC policy, standards, and codes of conduct
    4. Support in drafting of documents including review of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) from operations.
    5. Provide functional and administrative support in all protection related matters as communicated by the Head of the Protection pillar and/or thematic heads.
    6. Provide functional and administrative support in implementing participatory approaches, needs assessments, monitoring, reporting and case management as guided.
    7. Assist in drafting reports, routine correspondence, updating relevant databases and compiling statistics within the Area of Responsibility (AoR).
    8. Perform other related duties as required.

    Minimum Qualifications Required

    1. The education background should be in the following fields Law, social science or political science.

    Eligibility
    In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:

    1. Recent graduate (those persons who completed their studies within one year of applying) or current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by UNESCO
    2. Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of the Organization.

    Additional Information

    Status of the intern and insurance

    1. Interns are neither staff members under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations, nor officials within the meaning of the Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations of 13 February 1946, as interns are not remunerated for their work. As of 1 June 2018, interns that do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive a monthly Food and Local Transportation Allowance equivalent.
    2. Interns may not represent UNHCR in any official capacity.
    3. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern or his/her sponsoring institution. However, UNHCR will help with the visa application if applicable and advise accordingly.
    4. Interns are not subject to UN security evacuation procedures but may be assisted to leave the country when possible and to the extent feasible.
    5. Interns are fully responsible for arranging medical insurance covering their full internship period. Interns will be requested to show proof of valid medical (and life/accident) insurance for the duty station. It must include adequate coverage in the event of an injury or illness during the internship. UNHCR accepts no responsibility for the medical and life insurance of the intern or costs arising from accidents and illness incurred during an internship. As interns are not covered under any insurance, they should not travel to hazardous locations in the course of their internship with UNHCR.
