    Regional Communication Specialist

    The consultant will perform the following tasks:

    • Implement the UN-REDD Programme communications strategy, in support to the UN-REDD Communications Officer
    • Develop and implement digital engagement and branding strategies that align with UN- REDD’s goals and objectives.
    • Produce compelling content for various communications materials for the UN-REDD Programme.
    • Monitor and analyze communication and branding metrics to measure the effectiveness and uptake of regional initiatives.
    • Prepare a plan and deliver a range of strategic, targeted, and tailored communications products highlighting UN-REDD’s work.
    • Manage media relations including pitching to key media at the regional level, advocating for key issues at the core of UN-REDD’s mandate, and raising UN-REDD’s profile in the African region.
    • Identify regional key events for UNREDD's advocacy such as Africa Climate Week, UN General Assembly, UNFCCC COP, and UN Environment Assembly. Develop and execute engagement plans, including events.
    • Identify key days, such as UN Days, World Environment Day, International Day of Forests, etc., and leverage them to position UN-REDD and promote UN-REDD’s positions.
    • Liaise with communications/knowledge management colleagues within UNEP and with other organizations to implement the Knowledge Management Plan.

    Qualifications/special skills

    • Master’s Degree in journalism, political science, social science, public affairs, public relations, development studies, communications,
    • knowledge management or other relevant fields is required.
    • A minimum of 5years of experience in communication is required.
    • In-depth knowledge of communication approaches and strategies is required.
    • Experience in working with international development organizations in advocacy and communication including the design and facilitation of events is required.
    • Experience in managing collaborative processes is desirable.
    • Experience in facilitation and coordination is desirable.
    • Working experience in an international organization is an advantage
    • Knowledge of UNEP policies, procedures and practices is an advantage.
    • Proven experience having communicated on environmental issues, particularly forests, is an advantage.

    Skills:

    • Strong, proven project management skills.
    • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
    • Ability to convene partners and facilitate consensus.
    • Ability to coordinate a wide range of different outputs and partners.

    Languages

    • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in spoken and written English is required, French will be an asset. Knowledge of any other official UN languages would be an asset.
