    Regional Rangelands Coordinator- Carbon Project

    • The Regional Rangelands Coordinator will be responsible for implementing planned grazing management and integrating traditional knowledge of grazing governance into the conservancy model. We are looking for a dedicated person with a minimum training degree in rangelands management or any other relevant area, and experience working with communities on grazing management.

    Key roles/Responsibilities:
    Capacity building

    • Undertaking capacity-building trainings and refresher targeting Grazing committees, Village based grazing committees, women, morans and other social groups in the community on relevant aspects of rangeland management, rangeland rehabilitation and rangeland governance.
    • Organizing and coordinating community exposure tours to build knowledge of the grazing committee and community members rangeland management and rangeland governance.
    • Promoting community engagement forums to improve awareness and understanding rangeland management.
    • Provide direct Mentorship and guidance to rangeland coordinators through organizing regular forums, workshops, seminars and short courses.

    Program management and reporting

    • Technically guiding conservancy rangeland coordinators in developing and implementing annual and quarterly work plans.
    • Overseeing effective implementation of conservancies planned activities and programs.
    • Attending respective conservancy grazing committee meetings and facilitate appropriately.
    • Organizing forums and cultivating good relationship with the neighboring conservancies.
    • Consolidate and submit rangelands biannual and annual report.
    • Ensure timely reporting by the rangeland coordinators on monthly, basis.
    • Ensure coordinated grazing plan and livestock movement management across the landscape.

    Monitoring

    • Conducting vegetation monitoring twice a year that is transect set up, data collection and analysis.
    • Disseminating vegetation monitoring findings to conservancies.
    • Perform any other duties delegated from time to time by the Regional Director.

    Desired Skills and Qualifications:

    • At least a bachelor’s degree in Rangelands Management or any other related area from a university recognized in Kenya. Master’s degree is an added advantage.
    • At least 3 years relevant’ experience working with communities on grazing management.
    • Possession of a valid motor cycle riding license will be an added advantage.
    • A Kenyan citizen with keen interest in rangeland management with the objective of improving conditions for wildlife and community livelihood.
    • The candidate must demonstrate hardship and ability to camp and work in the field for extended hours.
    • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and solve problems effectively.
    • A strong driver for results with demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a member of team.
    • In depth knowledge and demonstrated commitment to natural resource management &rangeland Management and wildlife conservation.
    • Team player, with ability to seek out views of others and build positive working relationships.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Sound organizational and presentation skills.
    • Ability to work with multiple stakeholders including community and government.
