    Senior Assistant University Librarian Grade 5 (Formerly Grade 13)

     SENIOR ASSISTANT UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN GRADE 5 (FORMERLY GRADE 13)- REF: REF: SEKU/ADV/AD/7/08/2024 - 1 POSITION

    • Basic salary: KES. 127,116.00 p.m- KES 184,318.00 p.m
    • House allowance: KES. 58,972.00 p.m
    • Commuter allowance: KES.13,000.00 p.m.
    • Leave Allowance: As provided by the University

    Job Specification
    Duties and responsibilities entail:

    • Managing, delivering and develping of high quality, user focused and cost effective user services within the University library.
    • Line-managing designated colleagues, contribute to identification of staffing needs, and lead on staff induction, appraisal and development within the library.
    • Managing the effective deployment of staff to service points and functional areas.
    • Participating in the delivery of face-to-face and online enquiry services.
    • Developing, managing and participating in the delivery of student induction programmes.
    • Participating in the delivery of communication skills programmes and the development of teaching support materials.
    • Ensuring the application of University library policies, procedures and guidelines in all aspects of operations and service delivery.
    • Supporting and contribute to the development of relevant modules of the Library Management System ensuring that the capabilities of the system are fully exploited to the benefit of library users.
    • Participating in management of the premises, ensuring safe, clean and well-maintained environments, equipment and facilities, and liaising with internal and external service suppliers, as necessary.
    • Contributing to overall collection management and development.
    • Engaging in service development by participating in library management team.
    • Contributing to liaison with academic programme areas, as appropriate.
    • Such other duties temporarily or on a continuing basis, as may reasonably be required, commensurate with the grade.
    • Collaborating with Librarians in other universities to ensure rich and diverse collections of reading resources resource, sharing programs and cooperative technology initiatives.
    • Supervising library staff by allocating work to staff to ensure library activities are smoothly carried out
    • Acquiring and maintain thorough knowledge of the research, teaching and learning needs of the various university departments by identifying to ensure that most effective methods of providing library services are implemented
    • Maintaining and applying a thorough knowledge of competency in the tools and skills of professional librarianship and the standards to the library that provide basis for responding to queries, coordinating services and acquisitions.
    • Ensuring equitable access to information resources services, facilities and systems in physical and virtual environment in all university campuses.
    • Selecting and maintaining appropriate resources in a variety of formats to support academic programs and university initiatives.

    Person Specification
    For appointment to this post, a candidate must:

    • Be a holder of a Masters Degree in Library/Information Science or equivalent from an accredited and recognizeduniversity.
    • Have a Bachelors Degree in Library/Information Science or equivalent from an accredited and recognized university;
    • At least ten (10) years’ relevant work experience with at least three (3) years in a supervisory role.
    • Management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks cumulatively.
    • Demonstrate high administrative capabilities.
    • Be computer proficient with detailed understanding of ERP.
    • Satisfy the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya (2010) on Leadership and Integrity upon successful appointment.
