Senior Climate Change and Energy Advisor for Africa

    About the role

This role is pivotal in advancing Christian Aid's mission for climate justice and expanding energy access across Africa. The successful candidate will lead efforts to shape and implement Christian Aid’s energy strategy, with a strong emphasis on promoting renewable energy access and moving away from fossil fuels. This will involve leading regional advocacy initiatives and identifying strategic opportunities to align with broader global processes.

Key responsibilities include leading the implementation of an advocacy project on energy access in Africa. This entails researching the African Development Bank's (AfDB) role in financing renewable energy projects and collaborating with relevant CSOs and coalitions to shape and bring about advocacy objectives. The post holder will also coordinate strategic convenings, such as stakeholder dialogues, ensuring these events are informed by a nuanced understanding of pan-African contexts and the energy-focused CSO landscape. Delivering high-quality analysis and policy briefs will be crucial in supporting CSO advocacy efforts. In addition, the role requires collaboration with Christian Aid’s country teams in the Africa Division to support national advocacy efforts on energy.

    About you

To succeed in this role, you must be efficient, adaptable and outcome oriented. You should bring advanced knowledge and experience in climate justice, the energy agenda, and renewable energy access, particularly within the African context. A minimum of five years of senior project management experience is required. Additionally, you should have a strong background in developing policy briefs and advocacy materials related to energy and associated issues, as well as extensive experience working in Africa and collaborating with advocacy partners and networks.
