    Senior Laboratory Analyst - Kisumu

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Oversee operations of laboratory activities through supervision of all laboratory personnel, maintain workload data to support personnel requirements, initiate personnel actions, recommend selection of employees, establish performance standards and evaluate performance of subordinates through performance appraisals;
    • Plan and implement protocols and trouble-shooting procedures for solutions to testing problems, evaluate published methods and techniques for implementation in the laboratory;
    • Conduct research in reagent preparation, special techniques and preparation of data for publication;
    • Ensure that adequate operational supplies are available;
    • Monitor instrument maintenance and equipment to ensure items are maintained according to manufactures specifications and organizational standards;
    • Develop programs of instruction, such as safety, quality assurance, and chemical hygiene, and conducts required in-service training sessions;
    • Instruct staff in theoretical and practical aspects of medical technology handling and testing procedures;
    • Develop, review, upgrade and implement published procedures, including the definition of reference values and acceptable ranges as well as interpret quality control results;
    • Manage and ensure quality control procedures on equipment, reagents and products are completed and maintain proper records for all reports;
    • Ensure correct specimen collection/handling and proper specimen preparation procedures are followed;
    • Identify training needs and ensure personnel receive necessary training;
    • Recommend award nomination or disciplinary action, where applicable
    • Research, test, and evaluate new Clinical laboratory procedures, equipment, and supplies.
    • Perform any other duties as may be assigned.

    Vacancy Requirements:

    • At least four(4) years clinical or research laboratory supervisory or managerial experience.    Mandatory
    • .Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following fields: Medical Laboratory Sciences Laboratory Sciences, Analytical/Applied, Chemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Applied Sciences/Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Food Science and Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology or Biotechnology or any other equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.    Mandatory
    • Master of Science degree in any of the following disciplines: Medical Parasitology and Entomology, Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Medical Microbiology, Clinical Cytology Histopathology, Immunology, Epidemiology, Laboratory Management, Molecular Sciences/Biology, Virology, Mycology, Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, any other equivalent qualification from a recognized institution will be an added advantage.    Added Advantage
    • Registration Certificate issued by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB)    Mandatory
    • Valid practicing license from Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board.    Mandatory
    • Supervisory Course not lasting less than two (2) weeks from a recognized institution    Mandatory
    • Proficiency in computer applications.    Mandatory
    • Demonstrated work performance and results    Mandatory
    • Good organizational skills to facilitate oversight and performance of complex technical laboratory tasks in support of clinical and research activities
    • Good knowledge of Principles and Laboratory application of Hematology, Clinical Chemistry, Microscopy, Immunology (Flow Cytometry), laboratory facilities, and methods of gathering information for testing and quality control purposes
    • Ability to focus on customer service, coordinate work efficiently, and meet deadlines
    • Ability to analyze technical/analytical data and complete reports as required
    • Ability to work competently with minimal supervision and make decisions independently
    • Strong leadership, communication (verbal/written), interpersonal and presentation skills
