    Senior Officer Environmental Compliance and Regulatory Monitoring

    Brief Description

    Reporting to the Senior Manager- Sustainability and Partnership, The position holder will be responsible for driving environmental compliance across Safaricom operations, track and analyze the upcoming environmental regulations, collect and collate carbon footprint data    support implementation and maintenance of Environmental Management System  (EMS) as well as support sustainability initiatives and reporting in the company.

    Detailed Description

    • Oversee Safaricom’s compliance with the Environmental Management and Coordination Act, EMCA, 1999 and subsequent regulations
    • Drive community engagement in the EIA/EA process and track Safaricom’s compliance with public participation and consultation process as required by NEMA.
    • Lead the automation of   the environment data across the business
    • Proactively look out for, track and analysis new regulations that impact Safaricom and prepare business advisories.
    • Support the company in identifying and implementing the company   green initiatives.
    • Review and implement Safaricom’s Electro-Magnetic Frequency (EMF) policy
    • Support sustainability initiatives and reporting in the company.
    • Support the implementation and maintenance Environmental Management System in line with ISO 14001:2015
    • Collect and collate the carbon footprint data across the company
    • Receive, acknowledge, and address EMF issues raised on Safaricom BTS sites.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Natural resource management or Environmental Science or environmental management
    • 1- or 2-years’ experience in environmental compliance/management in a manufacturing industry
    • Registered or licensed by NEMA as an associate or lead expert is an added advantage
    • Proficient in use of MS word and MS excel
