    Senior Officer, Human Capital

    Role Summary:

    The Senior Officer, Human Capital is responsible for creating and implementing programs and policies that promote employee well-being and enhance the overall employee experience within the organization through managing HC operations efficiently, ensuring consistent and fair application of all HC policies and procedures and working continuously with the Head of Human Capital to make the Conservancy a great place to work.

    Responsibilities:

    • Employee Engagement: work closely with the Head of Human Capital to develop and implement strategies to enhance employee engagement, motivation, and job satisfaction. This involves conducting periodic employee surveys, implementing culture initiatives unique to the Conservancy’s way of working, and developing and implementing approved recognition and rewards programs.
    • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the initiatives and provide feedback on areas of improvement or future engagements.
    • Diversity, equity, and inclusion: work closely with the Head of Human Capital to ensure that the Conservancy promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion through the development of policies and programs that support a diverse workforce. This involves coordinating with other departments to ensure that the recruitment and hiring processes are at all times inclusive, equitable and affirms the affirmative action plans.
    • Employee Discipline Management and Grievance Handling:
      • Implement the Conservancy’s Disciplinary Policy and ensure compliance to the policy at all times as well as to the prevailing CBA and Employment Act (2007).
      • Ensure effective management of the Conservancy’s disciplinary process at zero legal and financial exposure to the Conservancy.
      • Ensure all employees files are updated with all Disciplinary reports and required documents/correspondence.
      • Maintain a disciplinary tracker for all disciplinary cases, provide monthly analysis to the cases and recommendations to improve on employee relations.
      • Ensure grievances reported to Human Capital are resolved quickly and as per the Conservancy’s grievance handling procedures.
    • Staff Welfare
      • Ensure that welfare facilities are properly maintained and are utilized for the right purpose (sports and recreational facilities, toilets and showers, houses etc.).
      • Ensure proper management of employee housing allocation across the Conservancy and ensure all housing reports are up to date.
      • Conduct regular inspections at the staff camps with the Infrastructure Team, to ensure staff living conditions are of the highest standards.
      • Make recommendations to the management on any housing issues arising and follow through to ensure implementation.
    • Support the Head of Human Capital in coordinating the Occupational Health & Safety Function within the Conservancy.
    • Support the Head of Human Capital in implementing the Conservancy’s performance management process and system to continuously drive high performance.
    • Ensure legal compliance of the departments operations as guided by the Conservancy’s polices, the Employment Act 2007 and other labour laws.
    • Union Relations:
      • Support the Head of Human Capital in maintaining a healthy working relationship between the Conservancy’s management and union representatives.
      • Ensure implementation and compliance to the prevailing Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
    • Learning & Development
      • Support the implementation of the Conservancy’s Learning & Development framework to develop an effective learning and development culture.
      • Coordinate learning and development activities with departments and external stakeholders (NITA, Training Institutions, Training consultants etc.).
      • Support business leads in the implementation of career progression guidelines as part of the employment development initiatives.

    Qualifications and Skills:

    Qualification.

    • Minimum - University degree in Human Resource Management or equivalent.
    • Higher National Diploma in HRM, CHRP or equivalent.

    Experience.

    • At least 7 years in human resource practice in a large commercial undertaking.
    • Experience in CBA negotiations and union management.
    • Must be a registered & certified full member of the Institute of Human Resource Management.

    Skills

    • Excellent communication and reporting skills, team player requiring minimum supervision and to work under pressure, knowledge of Kenya labour laws and regulations, good negotiation skills.
