    Sub-Regional Head – East Africa and Indian Ocean Islands

    This position is responsible to strategically leading the UPL business in East Africa and Indian Ocean Islands, to ensure the delivery of the business units budgets in terms of Revenue, EBITDA and Working Capital in line with the agreed strategic plan of the organization. The incumbent of this position would be responsible to develop strategic and growth business plans, including annual operational plans, budget and performance targets and acquisitions for the approval of the UPL EXCO. The formulation and implementation of the Go to Market Strategy would form part of the requirements of this position.

    Other responsibilities of the position would include:

    • To Develop /Promote and enhance the UPL culture and Values, Lead and develop the current team and ensure the relevant succession / development plans are formulated and implemented to ensure a robust pool of future leaders and to Represent UPL in Industry forums

    Job Responsibilities
    Financial

    • Quarterly & Annual Review (EBITDA & working capital)
    • Ensure company's commercial viability and profitability
    • Financial management of organisation to deliver agreed budgets.

    Customer

    • Negotiate agreements with commercial partners
    • Business development – identify growth and acquisition opportunities
    • Formulate the Go to Market Strategy

    Process/ Operation

    • Ensure proper management, operational efficiency and corporate reporting (permanent
    • monitoring)
    • Promote best practices in the business process to support achievement of the company's objectives
    • Strategy formulation and priorities for the business to achieve business goals

    Individual/Team

    • Develop next generation leaders
    • Ensure clear communication (targets, strategy, process and key Behaviors)
    • Assure excellent internal environment and people development
    • Live and promote the UPL Values and Culture

    People Management (Total Span of Control)

    • Accountable for managing people, setting direction and deploying resources; is responsible for performance evaluations pay reviews, and hire/fire decisions. Accountable for business functional or operational areas, processes or programs. Please note that selecting the "Direct" option below, you are confirming this role has direct People Management responsibilities. Based on this confirmation, the following job responsibility is included as part of the overall job description and will be a required annual performance goal for holder:
    • "Effectively manage the work and development of your direct reports by conducting (at a minimum) an annual performance evaluation for each direct report by annual due date; ensure each report has performance goals identified and entered by annual due date; a successor for each direct report has been identified; all reports have an updated Employee profile; and a minimum of one professional development discussion is held annually with development goals documented accordingly."

    • to administered by corporate. Does not include annual quarterly financial roll-up. The impact of their decisions and/ or end results effects the entire organization globally
    • Sub-Regional :The process is established and followed by all sites/plants, countries within the subregion.
    • The process impacts the entire sub-region.

    • Sub-Regional - Establishes and is fully accountable for the strategy for a sub-region. The position's accountability for establishing the strategic vision for the organization, or a part of the organization,and to motivate and persuade others to follow the strategy. The success or lack of success of the strategy sits with the position.

    Problem Solving Skills

    • Complex/Advanced: Requires a wide range of activities that require complex judgements and solutions based on sophisticated analytical thought comparing and selecting complex alternatives. Indepth analysis with interpretive thinking will be required to define problems and develop innovative solutions. Extensive research may be required.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • A relevant degree in Agronomy or similar
    • A post graduate qualification in business management would be advantageous
    • At least 15 years prior work experience, with 7-10 years’ experience in a similar evironment
    • Strategic leader who is able to shape a clear vision and translate the vision into strategies, actions, and results
    • In-depth Africa market experience and knowledge
    • Strong understanding of UPL product offering
    • Sales and Marketing skills at an executive level
    • Financial exposure at a strategic level
    • People Leadership Skills at a strategic and executive team level
    • Sales minded personality with ability to develop unique customer solutions
    • Creative approach to problem solving and alternative solutions
    • Excellent interpersonal communication and presentation skills
    • Strong learning agility, flexible, adaptable, situationally responsive and globally savvy
    • Previous work experience in a large and matrixed organization
    • Passionate with high energy and a drive for results and operational excellence
    • Minimum Level of Education Required for Position

    Education Description

    • Bachelor's Degree Business Administration / Agronomy/Chemistry
    • Years of Business Experience Required (Relevant to Position) 15 or greater
