    Administrative Assistant, G6

    Responsibilities

    This position is located within the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Environment Statistics Unit of the Early Warning and Assessment Division at the Nairobi Duty Station. Under the direct supervision of the Head of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Environment Statistics Unit, and within delegated authority, the incumbent will perform the following duties:

    • Assists in support of planning and implementation of activities / processes for the environment statistics and accounting programme.
    • Assists in liaising with National Statistical Offices and other line Ministries to obtain necessary statistical and other relevant information and responds to queries / requests.
    • Assists in liaising with the United Nations System Organizations on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) indicators reporting and other environmental indicator frameworks.
    • Responds to internal / external requests for capacity development on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) indicators and environment statistics at regional and national level.
    • Assists in the coordination of programme / project planning and preparation; monitors status of programme / project proposals; takes necessary action to ensure project documents are completed and submitted to relevant parties for approval.
    • Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making.
    • Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures.
    • Research, compiles, analyses, summarizes, and presents basic information / data on specific programmes / project and related topics.
    • Prepares, maintains and updates files (electronic and paper) and internal databases; designs and generates a variety of periodic and ad hoc reports, statistical tables, graphic content, and other background materials /notes.
    • Maintains/updates SDG web pages on WESR, UNEP.org and WeCollaborate portal.
    • Assembles and examines original statistical material to ensure accuracy, clarity, validity and makes appropriate adjustments.
    • Prepare standard terms of reference against programme / project objectives, obtain necessary clearances, process and follow-up on administrative actions and resolve issues related to project implementation, e.g., recruitment and appointment of personnel, travel arrangements, organization of and participation in training workshops.
    • Serves as focal point for coordination, monitoring and expedition of programme / project implementation activities, involving extensive liaison with diverse organizational units.
    • Drafts programme / project summaries, coordinates review and clearance process, and coordinates with editor, translation services, etc. on finalization and publication of reports in multiple languages.
    • Drafts correspondence and communications related to all aspects of programme / project implementation, including contractual and other related issues, as well as prepares unit contributions for a variety of periodic reports and newsletters.
    • Provide support to other Units in the Early Warning and Assessment Division on environment statistics, including for publications and communications.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Human Resources Assistant

    Responsibilities

    This position is located in UNEP, Corporate Services Division (CSD), Human Resources Section (HRS) at the Nairobi Duty station. Within delegated authority, under the direct supervision of the Human Resources Officer, Recruitment and Staffing Unit the Human Resources Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:

    Recruitment and placement

    • Participates in the selection of candidates for administration and related categories positions; including evaluating and screening applications of such candidates, preparing profiles of candidates, and conducting preliminary interviews, and conducting roster searches for vacancies and identifying short-lists of candidates.
    • Assists in organizing and coordinating competitive recruitment examinations.
    • Oversees the maintenance of vacancy announcement files and tracking status of vacancy announcements.
    • Performs Staffing Table Manager functions for the processing of recruitment in Inspira. Perform Hiring Manager and Departmental Head functions by shortlisting candidates, completing assessments and selection in Inspira as guided.
    • Launches, approves job openings in Inspira, recruitments (both in Inspira and off Inspira)
    • Assists in the recruitment of consultants and individual contractors, including posting of job openings, review and placement of consultants and individual contractors.
    • Supports the engagement of interns through the Inspira platform and liaises with the UNON Internship Office and other clients.
    • Assists in the building and maintenance of rosters for pre-qualified candidates across critical job families for ease of recruitment during surge or urgent recruitment.

    • Assists on initiatives to attract potential talent e.g., university career fairs, online webinars, social media platforms like LinkedIn.

    Programme Management Officer, P3

    Responsibilities

    The position is located in the Finance Initiative Unit (FI) of the Industry and Economy Division at the Nairobi duty station. Under the supervision of the Head of Unit, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

    • Facilitates and promote leadership on sustainability by financial institutions in Africa and the Middle East. Engage the broader membership in work programme implementation and help monitor members’ progress in implementing industry frameworks and targets.
    • Supports technical capacity building for the roll out of guidance/methodologies/tools in the region. Expand membership and signatories to/endorsement of the Principles for Responsible Banking and Principles for Sustainable Insurance.
    • Facilitates activities with the community of UNEP FI members in the region for awareness raising and knowledge sharing across financial institutions, as well as outreach to potential new members. Develop areas of cooperation with key stakeholders and expand UNEP FI’s network and partnerships with supporting institutions to advance the sustainable finance agenda in Africa and the Middle East.

    Responsibilities

    The position is located in the Economy Division, Chemicals and Health Branch, GEF Chemicals and Waste, at the Nairobi duty station. Under the supervision of the Programme Budget Officer of the GEF Chemicals and Waste, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

    • Financial Management:
    • Provide support with respect to the review, analyses and preparation of Division costed work plans and its revisions;

    • Experience working with various offices of the United Nations Secretariat, United Nations Agencies, Funds and Programmes, the European Union, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, Non-Governmental Organizations or Permanent Missions is desirable.
    • Experience working on Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems such as Umoja is desirable.
    • Experience organizing meetings and workshops is desirable.
    • One (1) year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
