    Tutorial Fellow - Department of Publishing, Journalism & Communication Studies - 2 Positions

    Ref. MU/AC/01/8/2023

    Duties and Responsibilities

    An individual appointed as a Tutorial Fellow shall:

    • Assist senior academic members of staff in assignments allocated by the Chair of Department;
    • Undertake a relevant Doctoral (Ph.D.) degree programme;
    • Provide professional and community service, and participate in initiating strategic training and research partnerships and linkages; and
    • Carry out such other duties & responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.

    For appointment to this grade, a candidate must;

    • Have a Master’s degree from a recognized/accredited University in the relevant field;
    • Demonstrate potential for University teaching and/or research during the appointment interview and also during the Contract period;
    • Be registered for a relevant Doctorate (Ph. D.) degree;
    • Show evidence of recognition and registration by the relevant regulatory body where applicable; and”
    • Show evidence of membership or affiliation of the relevant professional body where applicable.

    Maintenance Officer - 2 Positions

    Ref. MU/ADM/02/8/2023

    Duties and Responsibilities
    An officer at this level will be responsible for:

    • Undertaking building maintenance works;
    • Preparation of specifications and contract documents for minor works;
    • Inspection and valuation of houses; and
    • Carry out such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.

    For appointment to this grade, an Officer must:

    • Have Higher National Diploma in Civil & Structural Engineering, Architecture, Building Economics, fiscal Engineering or its equivalent from a recognized institution;
    • Have a Certificate in relevant computer applications;
    • Be conversant with current relevant building by-laws;
    • Have valid Electrician License by the Energy Regulatory Commission;
    • Have served in the grade of Assistant Maintenance (Building/Electrical) or in a comparable and relevant position for at least three (3) years; and
    • Have shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
    • Degree in the relevant field will be an added advantage.

    Assistant Maintenance Officer (Building)

    Ref. MU/ADM/03/8/2023

    Duties and Responsibilities
    An officer at this level will be responsible for:

    • Interpreting of architectural and engineering drawings relative to building works;
    • Interpreting building and civil engineering specifications and bills of quantities;
    • Working out estimates of costs of building works; and
    • Supervising building contracts and maintenance works; and coordinating the work of artisans under them.

    For appointment to this grade, an officer must:

    • Have Diploma in Building and Civil Engineering or Construction Management;
    • Have Certificate in relevant computer packages;
    • Be conversant with relevant bylaws;
    • Have served in the position of Technician (Building) Grade 5/6 for at least three (3) years; and
    • Have shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.

    Assistant Maintenance Officer (Grounds & Parks)

    Ref. MU/ADM/04/8/2023

    Duties and Responsibilities

    An officer at this level will be responsible for the following:

    • Maintenance of University grounds and garbage collection;
    • Designing and implementation of landscaping works;
    • Implementation of tree planting programmes;
    • Taking charge of solid waste management of a university campus in liaison with the Public Health Officer;
    • Maintenance and inventory of machinery and equipment;
    • Preparing work schedules;
    • Design and development of commercial tree nurseries, landscaping, Tree planting; and
    • Carry out such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.

    For appointment to this grade, an officer must:

    • Have Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Forestry or Horticulture or its equivalent from a recognized Institution;
    • Have served in the position of Grounds Supervisor Grade 5/6 for a period of at least three (3) years;
    • Have computer skills from a recognized institution; and
    • Have shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.

    Clerk of Works

    Ref. MU/ADM/05/8/2023

    Duties and Responsibilities

    An officer at this level will be responsible for:

    • Involving in control and supervision of buildings under construction or specialized work of running a repair and maintenance works;
    • Assisting in planning a building programme;
    • Ensuring that construction work in progress is in accordance with the specifications of the drawings by architects and engineers; and
    • Monitoring work progress as per schedule in addition to estimating costs.

    For appointment to this grade, an officer must:-

    • Have Diploma in Building and Civil Engineering awarded by Kenya National Examination Council, or equivalent qualifications recognized by KNEC;
    • Have served in the relevant field in the Scale 5/6 (V/VI) for at least three (3) years;
    • Have competency in computer applications particularly in Architectural and Civil/Structural- Engineering packages; and
    • Have shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.

    Fire & Safety Officer

    Ref. MU/ADM/06/8/2023

    Duties and Responsibilities

    An officer at this level will be responsible for:

    • Fire Fighting or Fire Prevention and Protection Operations within his jurisdiction including planning organization of duties;
    • Maintenance and accounting for equipment;
    • Control of staff under him including discipline and overall service administration within his area of jurisdiction;
    • Operational and administrative control of all activities for Fire Fighting or fire prevention services of his unit including training of his crew of firemen;
    • Inspection of appliance and equipment;
    • Implementation of unit’s order and instructions;
    • Efficient operation of firefighting appliances and equipment;
    • Inspection of buildings to assess fire hazards and risks;
    • Ensuring soundness and adequacy of means of escape;
    • Writing fire reports;
    • Conducting fire demonstrations, demonstrations drills and lectures;
    • Plan of fire evacuation orders;
    • Performing fire investigation;
    • Maintenance of firefighting and/or fire prevention records; and
    • Perform other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

    For appointment to this grade, an officer must:

    • Have Diploma in Fire Prevention and Protection Services from a recognized Fire Services Training Institution;
    • Have served in the position of Assistant Fire Officer Grade 5/6 or in a comparable and relevant position;
    • Have acquired sound technical and administrative knowledge in Fire Fighting and or Fire Prevention and Protection matters;
    • Have shown competence and ability in organizing and running Fire Fighting and/ or Fire Protection Services within his/her jurisdiction; and
    • Have shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
