    Engineer- Metro Deployment

    Detailed Description

    Reporting to the Manager- Metro Deployment, the position holder is responsible for deployment, optimization and management of all the fiber network to support both Internal and External Customers requirements

    Key Responsibilities

    • Develop a formal and comprehensive project plan and Obtain all approvals with identified stakeholders prior to proceeding with project execution
    • Refine project estimates and resource requirements by performing field surveys to determine and define project baseline and schedule
    • Maintain and periodically update the project plan and raise potential risk of deviations from project plan
    • Manage the supplier assigned to a project to ensure timely delivery of project
    • Manage the Change Requests and recommend appropriate action
    • Coordinate project activities with all involved departments and sections departments to ensure well-ordered, end-to-end execution of all project tasks
    • Prepare and issue regular/weekly project progress reports for timely and accurate decision making by stakeholders
    • Hold regular project progress review and coordination meetings with key project team members, with Contractors, and other project stakeholders
    • Develop and maintain the standards and processes to be used in fibre deployment
    • Enforce standards in the materials used in networks deployment to ensure optimum QOS and network lifespan
    • Maintain and control quality of deployment to ensure high availability and resiliency
    • OHS standards enforcement during deployment of fibre networks in conjunction with other stakeholders
    • Perform quality inspection and acceptance of concealed works by making regular visits to the field to assure standards, and Validation of as built documents
    • Represent Safaricom towards municipality/county authorities and other external parties when required
    • Investigate project disputes and resolve or recommend appropriate action
    • Act as the Safaricom representative towards the public and local authorities
    • Be on call to jointly respond to emergencies such as damages to third parties facilities and follow up the supplier assigned to the project

    Qualifications

    • First Degree in Engineering with a strong fibre telecoms content.
    • 3-year experience in deployment of fibre network  
    • Excellent project management skills in handling large projects in telecommunication; Certifications in Project Management will be an added advantage
    • Knowledge in GIS mapping tools; Connect Master proficiency will be an added advantage
    • Familiar with ROW acquisition process

    Engineer Support-Financial Services IT

    Brief Description

    Reporting to the Engineering Lead - Financial Services IT, the position holder will be responsible for improving existing solutions, providing technical support, troubleshooting, and monitoring financial solutions applications to ensure 99.999% availability of the system.

    Technical support duties include but not limited to architecture reviews and optimization, incident handling, detailed root cause analysis, problem management, configuration management, automation of routine tasks, documentation, and operational acceptance compliance.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Ensure data and/or application availability of the assigned systems and applications;
    • Participate in design , testing and implementation of new products, services, functionalities or upgrades
    • Provide support for financial solutions which includes MPESA and integrations
    • Perform Systems and Applications Monitoring
    • Maintain knowledge base by documenting technical knowledge
    • Collaborate with team members to improve the tools, systems and procedures
    • Participate and provide input to the M-PESA roadmap to ensure timely delivery of relevant products to Safaricom Customers;
    • Work with the external and internal technical teams to ensure efficient resolution of all system issues
    • Implement DevOps technologies and processes, e.g: containerization
    • Liaise with all stakeholders to ensure new functionality, processes and systems are fully understood
    • Transfer system knowledge to internal customers on new features and support processes
    • Prepare and publish accurate and timely system performance reports
    • Perform regular service improvements that align with 99.999% availability
    • Diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues on the assigned systems and apply a work around or a permanent solution to resolve ensuring the MTTR is met
    • Properly escalate unresolved issues to appropriate internal or external teams and follow up to ensure they are satisfactorily closed
    • Provide prompt and accurate feedback to stakeholders on assigned tasks
    • Ensure all issues are logged in the service management tool and are properly prioritized and also accurately log resolution details in the ticket

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Requirements:

    • A Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Engineering or relevant field as a minimum
    • 2 years of work experience as an engineer in a telecommunications or financial services environment
    • Expertise in system monitoring and alerting strategies and can draw on their experience to drive improvements in system monitoring with automation, third party tools and frameworks
    • Working knowledge of databases and SQL
    • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
    • Software development skills in Java, python, Angular JS etc
    • Knowledge in ITIL Service Operations processes and Agile methodology. Certification in Scrum fundamentals is an added advantage.
    • Working knowledge in dev ops and dev ops tools like Github
    • Knowledge in mobile money systems, integrations or Financial systems
    • Must be able to work without supervision & meet tight deadlines/schedules
    • Good presentation skills
    • Proactive & self-motivated

    Program Manager

    Brief Description

    Reporting to the Senior Manager - Program Management, the position holder will work with the department leads in the assigned unit to provide program leadership in the pursuit and delivery of complex engineering & ICT solutions for Safaricom programs & projects. This role will be responsible for partnership with assigned delivery unit to ensure realization of business outcomes through kick off, execution, control and closure of programs and projects.

    Responsibilities

    • To develop a formal and comprehensive program delivery plan by integrating and documenting project deliverables, acceptance criteria, processes, procedures, risks, and tasks to facilitate project executing, controlling, and closing processes.
    • To ensure tool and metrics utilization to track and improve project performance - EPM, MS Project, Share point, Project Initiation Documents (Statement of works, Governance Structure, Communication plan, Risk Management Plan).
    • To manage program progress by ensuring that activities are executed as planned to achieve the project objectives.
    • To enforce quality gates during the implementation of projects. This will involve stakeholder engagement and communication management through the project life cycle until closure.
    • To manage and escalate risks and issues appropriately through the project life cycle.
    • To ensure timely CAPEX Utilization for all projects within your domain
    • To ensure timely preparation and dissemination of project reports and updates, governance meeting presentations
    • To contribute to the project management knowledge base by sharing lessons learned, best practices, research, appropriately to improve the quality of project management services, build the capabilities of colleagues, and advance the profession.
    • To facilitate cooperation within our teams and with stakeholders to realize shared goals by encouraging collaborative problem solving, open communication, and teamwork;
    • To provide leadership support for direct reports which will include but is not limited to interaction at all/senior levels and accountability/oversight/management;
    • To conduct performance appraisal, motivate and train staff in the section.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Degree in Engineering, ICT, construction management or business-related field
    • Project management expertise: Certified in PMP or PRINCE 2 and Agile certification
    • At least 5 years’ experience in managing telecommunication or construction projects
    • Demonstrate strong knowledge and background of Waterfall and Agile concepts in project delivery
    • Ability to inspire teams to achieve business outcome
    • Demonstrate knowledge of contract management and proper interpretation of contract terms & conditions

    Enterprise Risk Manager

    Brief Posting Description

    Reporting to the HOD- Enterprise Risk Management the role holder will support the ERM function in the facilitation of Operational and Strategic risk assessments, conducting reviews on the implementation of risk mitigation action plans and preparing summary report of findings. To assist in the development and implementation of the new business risk management strategy that aligns and supports the organization’s strategy. Support implementation of the Governance Risk and Compliance (GRC) solution across the organization. Facilitating ad hoc risk assessments as required.

    Job Responsibilities

    • Develop and Implement Strategic and Operational Risk Assessments plan on an annual basis.
    • Identify key stakeholders both internal & external that impact the delivery of the ERM Framework and ensure full alignment and engagement.
    • Keep abreast of all key ERM developments within the Telecommunication industry-locally, regionally and internationally.
    • To ensure potential new and emerging risks and threats are highlighted and reported to management on a quarterly basis.
    • Conduct on a regular basis operational risk assessment for projects, products, processes and any ad hoc assessment as requested by the business.
    • Work with the business to conduct Risk assessments and ensure the Risk owners follow through with the mitigations agreed in the GRC system
    • Collate companywide risk summary to be presented to Senior Management and Board Audit Committee
    • Plan and conduct appropriate Risk Management awareness initiatives across the business to ensure risk appreciation and upscale the risk culture.
    • Support the business in the implementation of the GRC solution through walkthrough sessions and refresher sessions as and when requested.
    • Support the business in adhoc risks assessments and offer risk advisory when needed
    • Identify opportunity areas for the business and give recommendations for implementation.
    • Supporting implementation of various ISO standards in the business that are risk based.
    • Supporting Safaricom subsidiaries in enterprise risk management.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Upper second-class degree in Business or Commerce from a recognized University
    • Risk Management certification – Cert IRM, Dip IRM, ISO 31000
    • Relevant post-graduate education is an added advantage
    • At least 5 years working experience in a risk management position.
    • Detailed knowledge of cross functional operations and impact of one department to another
    • Excellent report writing, interpersonal skills and presentation skills
