    Intern- Information Technology, I

    This post is located in the Nairobi duty station, the Information Security team (IS) within the Information and Communications Technology Service (ICTS) of the Division of Administrative Services, UNON. The intern will be under the supervision of the Information Technology Assistant, UNON ICTS, Information Security Unit. The United Nations Office of Nairobi (UNON), Information and Communications Technology Service (ICTS), Information Security Unit internship is for six (6) months.

    In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, applicants may be requested to undertake the internship remotely in view of constraints regarding visa issuance, international travel and access to UN premises. Applicants must be willing and prepared to undertake the internship remotely for a part or the entirety of the internship. The work hours during the internship shall be determined based on individual discussion between the intern and the supervisor(s) taking into consideration the minimum requirements of the Organization and the time difference between the hosting office and the location of the intern.

    The Internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

    Responsibilities

    Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background; the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period. Under the direct supervision of Information Technology Assistant, the intern will:

    • Assist in configuring and setting up new devices.
    • Assist in migrating machines to Azure AD.
    • Assist in the installation of applications and documenting processes.
    • Assist in troubleshooting and providing support to user machines.
    • Assist in basic wireless and wired network troubleshooting.
    • Assist in the physical movement of ICT equipment.
    • Communicate with site supervisors clearly on any issues.
    • Assist in scanning and removal of malware infections from computers.
    • Assist in conducting applications and OS upgrade lab tests.
    • Assist in the deployment of software updates.
    • Assist in the computer image capture for forensic analysis.

    Education

    Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

    • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
    • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
    • Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent
    • Be computer literate in standard software applications.
    • Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter and the New Urban Agenda;
    • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

    Preferred areas of studies:

    • Information and Communications Technology.

    • No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.
    • Proficiency in computer software applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required.
    • Proficiency in Windows and Linux operating is desirable.

    Intern- Environment Affairs, I

    The internship is for a duration of six (6) months. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35-40 hours). Under the direct supervision of the COBSEA Coordinator, the intern will support the implementation of Regional Seas activities in East Asia:

    Responsibilities

    • organization of meetings and events, including upcoming COBSEA Intergovernmental Meetings (IGM25), meetings of the Working Group on Marine Litter, consultation meetings for the Marine and Coastal Ecosystems, and regional/international events as well as technical/project meetings and workshops
    • implementation of activities pertaining to the COBSEA Strategic Directions 2018-2022
    • assist in the development of the new COBSEA Strategic Directions 2023-2027
    • support internal as well as external communication, including public outreach, generating content for use on the website, in newsletters, outreach materials, presentations etc.
    • support other tasks or activities as required and in accordance with the intern's interests.

    • Teamwork: Works collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals; solicits input by genuinely valuing others’ ideas and expertise; willing to learn from others; places office agenda before personal agenda

    Education

    • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); Enrollment in a graduation programme focused on natural science, social sciences, sustainable development, communication, or economic discipline OR
    • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent) OR
    • Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation
