    Clinical Research Scientist: (1 post)

    Position summary:

    The job holder will be responsible for undertaking health research and conducting clinical trials and ensuring patients care and safety during research.
    The individual hired will work under the Supervision of the Deputy Director of Clinical Operations and receive the mentorship of the Principal Investigators conducting trials at the Kombewa CRC. The individual hired should have a degree in medicine and surgery or equivalent from a recognized institution and interest in infectious diseases and clinical research. The will be trained in the conduct of clinical trials and need superior organizational/administrative skills, attention to detail, clinical acumen, and a good grounding in bio-ethical principles.

    Job Specification

    • Implementing pre-clinical and clinical research projects and/or supervise designated aspects of the work;
    • General diagnosis, care, treatment and provision of specialized clinical care for study participants;
    • Assist in carrying out fieldwork and pre-clinical and clinical experimental procedures;
    • Carry out experimental and/or developmental work;
    • Contributing to interpretation and validation of results
    • Conduct community diagnosis, care and treatment during Corporate Social
    • Responsibility (CSR) activities;
    • Assist in organization of the internal scientific seminars;
    • Guiding visiting scientific students /students on attachment
    • Maintaining the scientific pre-clinical and clinical facility

    Minimum job requirements and qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields: Medicine and surgery, Dentistry, Veterinary, Pharmacy or equivalent qualifications from a recognized Institution;
    • Professional qualification and membership to a relevant professional body,
    • Supervisory course lasting not less than two (2) weeks
    • Management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks
    • Proficiency in computer application;
    • Evidence of having satisfied the requirements of Chapter 6 of the Constitution of
    • Kenya 2010 by providing the following:
      • KRA Certificate of Tax compliance
      • Certificate from Credit Reference Bureau.
      • Police Clearance Certificate.
      • Clearance from the Ethics and Anticorruption Commission.
      • Certificate of clearance from HELB.

    Terms of Employment:

    • One (1) year renewable contract. Probation period for the first three (3) months
    • Remuneration: The salary is based on KEMRI salary scale.

    Senior Community Health Worker – 1 Post - Grade: KMR7

    Position summary:

    The officer will be responsible for identifying, planning and providing community health promotion and education to different populations in the communities; provide services in nutrition, public health, maternal care and health, community engagement and mobilization among other key areas. The individual hired will work under the supervision of the Deputy Director of Administration. The individual hired should have extensive ties to the Kombewa community. The officer should have excellent interpersonal communications abilities, leadership skills, managerial talent, and an innate sense of the community’s concerns so has to allow him or
    her to support recruiting/enrollment activities and complex logistics for trial visits. He or she will obey and comply with the KEMRI/USAMRD-K/A rules and regulations.

    Job Specification

    • Sensitizing and training community workers to understand more about health problems in the community;
    • Provide essential health advice and support;
    • Develop and implement plans of care by assessing the health needs and available
    • resources within the community based on project objectives. 
    • Offer community health consultations and speak to the community on ways to develop
    • healthy habits that fulfill community health requirements.
    • Liaise with community leaders and coordinate community mobilization activities
    • Coordinate subject recruitment from the field with study staff to schedule briefing and screening
    • Liaise with Research Administrators and principal investigators to project and coordinate schedule for follow ups
    • Supervise field and community team
    • Building community relations through the creation and maintenance of a Community
    • Advisory Board (CAB), facilitate CAB meetings and organize CAB trainings
    • Any other duties as signed by the supervisor

    Minimum job requirements and qualifications:

    • At least four (4) years relevant work experience;
    • Diploma in the following fields: Community Health and Development, Nutrition,
    • Social work or relevant qualification from a recognized Institution;
    • Proficiency in computer application;
    • Demonstrated work performance and results;
    • Evidence of having satisfied the requirements of Chapter 6 of the Constitution of
    • Kenya 2010 by providing the following:
      • KRA Certificate of Tax compliance
