    Reporting To: Medical Officer In Charge

    Overall Purpose

    As part of a multidisciplinary team, the incumbent will be responsible for providing safe, efficient, high quality diagnostic imaging services to both inpatient and outpatients through the use of modern imaging technology that includes computerized X-ray machines and multi probe ultrasound unit          

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • To undertake initial patient evaluation, provide diagnostic radiographs, perform ultrasound and Doppler examinations by capturing images of diagnostic value.
    • Explaining the ultrasound procedure to patients and answering any questions they may have.
    • Maintaining the ultrasound equipment and maintaining the room in which the procedure takes place.
    • Performing the ultrasound ensuring the transducer (probe) is capturing images of every angle/section that must be assessed and ensuring the images are of best quality.
    • Maintaining patient’s records and adding medical notes related to the ultrasound procedure if necessary.
    • Ensure radiation safety measures and protection are observed to comply with government regulations and to ensure safety to patient’s staff and self.
    • Ensure scheduled maintenance, and calibration of medical equipment’s are in place and followed.
    • Ensure accurate documentation and care of patients’ records.
    • Liaising with doctors and other medical staff to clarify ambiguous radiology requests to prevent service anomalies;
    • Review Patient Reports to ensure that they are accurate before sign off; and documenting and reporting all the faults on the machines to recommended authorities.
    • Perform any other duties within the professional circuit as may be assigned from time to time

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Diploma in Medical imaging sciences
    • Higher Diploma in Ultrasound.
    • Registered with The Kenya Radiation Protection Board.
    • 2 years work experience in Radiology/Ultrasound in a busy hospital.

    Public Health Manager

    Reporting To: Head of Health, Nutrition and Social Services  

    JOB SUMARY: The Public Health Manager is responsible for ensuring effective design, development, implementation and evaluation of integrated Health programming in both emergency and development contexts for the national society. This role contributes to the realization of key objectives of the Health and Nutrition sector strategic plans as well as the overall organization strategic plan objective of ensuring communities lead healthy lives and have opportunities to achieve social, economic and psychosocial well-being. It includes active participation in researching, analyzing data, reporting and liaising with health agencies especially the Ministry of Health and other partners to ensure quality programming to meet set targets and international humanitarian standards.

    SCOPE OF THE ROLE:

    1. Provide technical support and leadership in RMNCAH, GBV, & management of KRCS clinical facilities
    2. Provide oversight and monitoring support to the implementing teams.
    3. Provide technical support and guidance in the management of the KRCS health facilities in refugee operations and drugs and substance abuse rehabilitation center
    4. Build the capacity of the implementing teams.
    5. Spearhead Health systems strengthening efforts for delivery of Integrated Health and Nutrition interventions
    6. Establish and maintain partnerships.
    7. Coordinate resource mobilization.
    8. Oversee and undertake research, policy, advocacy, documentation and generation of data for decision making.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Provide leadership in the design and development of evidence based high impact Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH), Gender Based Violence and blood donation interventions in line with the organizational strategy and sector specific strategies and plans.
    2. Provide technical support and guidance to the teams managing the health facilities in Kalobeyei, Dadaab and drugs and substance abuse rehabilitation center
    3. Coordinate preparation of funding proposals to meet the identified needs in line with the strategic plan ensuring adherence to donor requirements.
    4. Undertake scoping for new partnerships and ensure strategies are in place to maintain existing partners.
    5. Represent organization in national Government health sector and other stakeholder coordination forums.
    6. Participate in the development and review of health sector policies and guidelines for enhanced service delivery to meet the country health targets.
    7. Contribute to advocacy efforts to ensure RMNCAH, Gender Based Violence, blood donation and drugs and substance abuse rehabilitation center priorities are clearly articulated in national and county plans for increased resource allocation for sustainability
    8. Contribute to advocacy efforts to ensure that RMNCAH, Gender Based Violence, blood donation, drugs and substance abuse rehabilitation center priorities are included in the organization wide strategies and plans.
    9. Participate in the development of annual work plans, budgets and programme reviews and ensure follow up actions on evaluations/audits are implemented
    10. Guide and mentor staff under direct supervision to set clear targets aligned to the organizational strategy, support in performance appraisal and capacity development initiatives for staff in Health RMNCAH, Gender Based Violence, blood donation and drugs and substance abuse rehabilitation center to effectively play their role and enhance visibility for the organization, and adherence to code of conduct and codes of professional practice.
    11. Plan, monitor and evaluate the performance of programme staff against set targets and objectives, assess training needs and implementing development action plans aimed at building the capacity of individuals and multi-disciplinary teams
    12. Represent the Society at meetings, conferences and workshops and other forums to promote the activities of KRCS and articulate issues related to humanitarian relief
    13. Prepare inception reports, concept papers, periodic progress reports and annual reports showing achievements against planned targets as well as providing justification for performance variances and areas of improvement
    14. Monitor usage of Health (RMNCAH), Gender Based Violence, blood donation and drugs and substance abuse rehabilitation center supplies and assets in accordance with donor regulations;
    15. Ensure budget spending according to approved budgets, review and analyze budgets versus actual expenditures and take remedial measures;
    16. In coordination with the Head of Health Nutrition and Social services, determine RMNCAH, Gender Based Violence and blood donation program staffing needs and ensure such positions are filled in timely manner;
    17. Ensure the implementation of the staff health policy in collaboration with the HR department

    Minimum Qualifications

    1. Degree or Masters in MBChB - Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery
    2. Master’s in Public Health will be desirable
    3. Relevant post-graduate qualification in community health, or equivalent qualifications with certificate in project management will be an added advantage
    4. Over seven (7) years’ experience in planning, implementing and evaluating health programmes particularly RMNCAH and Gender Based Violence and overall technical support to health facilities.
    5. Additional experience in grants management particularly USAID, EU, funded grants

    1. Must be registered with medical practitioners and dentist council
    2. Knowledge of public health, humanitarian relief issues, trends and goals aimed at preventing and alleviating human suffering

    Psychosocial Counsellor

    Reporting To: Mental Health & Psychosocial Support Coordinator   

    OVERALL PURPOSE

    Reporting to the Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Coordinator. The position will assess and provide comprehensive psychological treatment including individual and group therapy with adults and children who are survivors of torture. The Psychosocial Counselor to work with refugee population who have suffered torture and war trauma.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Provide comprehensive psychosocial counseling and PFA (Psychological Frist Aid) to address the mental health needs of refugees and host community.
    • Provide assessment, individual and group counseling
    • Sensitize, problem solve, dialogue and mediate with the wider population about issues of war, torture, trauma and SGBV
    • Become proficient with Kenya Red Cross Society data collection tools and conduct and submit assessments and reports in a timely and accurate matter
    • Work closely with the database staff to ensure quality reporting
    • Ensure all work with clients is confidential and that ethical practices are observed
    • Assist in the designing, planning, implementing and facilitating of external trainings for numerous target groups
    • Develop new and strengthen existing referral systems with other organizations
    • Liaise with other stakeholders and partner organizations
    • Engage in self-care through supervision, debriefings, and other shared sessions
    • Attend all PSC trainings given by Kenya Red Cross Society
    • Assist with any other related activities as deemed necessary by the supervisor.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    • Diploma/ Degree in Psychology, Counselling or related field.
    • At least 2-3 years in field experience within a Humanitarian NGO/Agency in the same or similar position.
    • Extensive experience providing psychotherapy to individuals and groups.
    • Understanding of and experience implementing culturally appropriate mental health interventions, including individual, group and community-based approaches for people who have suffered torture and trauma.
    • Experience with gender-based violence highly desirable.
    • Experience working as part of an interdisciplinary/multi-disciplinary team desirable.
    • Flexibility and adaptability.
    • Demonstrated flexibility to adapt to changing requirements and needs.

    Nursing Officer

    Reporting To: Nursing Officer In Charge  

    Overall Purpose

    The overall objective is to provide a high standard of client care to both outpatients and inpatients, in accordance with clinical guidelines, policies, procedure, quality standards and guidelines for nursing professional practice.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • The Nursing Officer shall work in specific ward/clinic assigned to and would therefore work as both supervisor and team leader of the refugee staff.
    • Prepare for and assist the doctors during the rounds whenever required.
    • Ensure that all required observations, prescribed treatment and procedures are properly carried out and documented on patient’s charts.
    • Refer to the doctor in charge or to the doctor/CO on call relevant information such as patient’s status and laboratory results, which would assist in proper clinical management.
    • Arrange and submit weekly clinic/ward work schedule and plan daily duties and responsibilities for each refugee staff.
    • Participate in camp health surveys/campaigns.
    • Conduct regular training session for refugee staff on basic nursing care/management of various ward/clinic cases and charting.
    • Give health education to patients and clients
    • Compile and submit monthly reports.
    • Monitor and supervise proper usage of supplies.
    • Maintain equipment in good condition and submit regular inventory report of the same.
    • Maintain drug registers and drug consumption within the ward level.
    • Ensure that all admissions, discharges, transfers and deaths are properly recorded as they occur.
    • Taking and recording of vital signs and proper documentation of all nursing procedures
    • Ensure the clinic/ward is cleaned to the expected standards.
    • Perform coverage and be on-call as required.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Over two (2) years’ experience.
    • Registered nurse with a Diploma in Nursing from KMTC or other recognized nurse training institute.
    • Valid and current registration with the Nursing Council of Kenya.

    Mental Health Nurse

    Reporting To: Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Coordinator

    Overall Purpose

    Reporting to the Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Coordinator, the Mental Health Nurse' s overall objective will be to provide safe, effective and curative mental health and psychosocial services in Ifo camp.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Identify and define mental health problems and needs of the refugees in Ifo camp and provide technical advice on all cases of psychiatric disorders/other psychological problems.
    • Oversee and conduct mental health assessments, diagnose and plan individual case management of psychiatric patients in the refugee camp/Host community and refer accordingly.
    • Develop nursing care plans for psychiatric patients admitted into the ward and liaise treatment plans with the Medical officer/ Clinician.
    • Provide a detailed training for the mental health assistants on mental health.
    • Design a suitable and relevant “Mental Health” training manual for Ifo Camp mental health program.
    • Identify and manage the mentally ill patients both in the outpatient and psychiatric clinic and in the community through follow-ups.
    • Manage in-patients with psychological morbidity or those admitted with known psychiatric disorders.
    • Manage patients with emotional and/or psychiatric morbidity.
    • Provide psychiatric support by use of individual or group counseling and psychotherapy sessions.
    • Training of relevant staff, CHWs, HP screeners, auxiliary nurses and other groups exposed to persons with mental problems or the vulnerable groups.
    • Community education and creating awareness so as to initiate community participation as a PHC approach.
    • Design a mental health working guideline in line with DSM V and Ministry of Health policy.
    • Liaise with colleagues in acquiring any useful tools, equipment in the duties thereby such as equipment for psychotherapy.
    • Identify and liaise with traditional healers and religious leaders in dealing with people with selective mental disorders.
    • Complete monthly activity reports.
    • Carry out any other additional duties as may be assigned by the Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Coordinator.

    Required Qualifications and Experience

    • Diploma in Registered nursing –Mental Health and psychiatry/Higher Diploma in Mental Health and Psychiatry or related field.
    • At least 2-3 years in field experience within a Humanitarian NGO/Agency in the same or similar position.
