    Global Goal Team Evidence Uptake Advisor

    Role Purpose:

    The Global Goal Evidence Uptake Advisor plays a key role in enabling and promoting the use of internal and external evidence by all staff involved in the delivery of Save the Children’s 2022-2024 strategy. Working within the Evidence and Learning team and with a new “Global Goal Team” structure, the Evidence Uptake Advisor will lead on synthesising, summarising, packaging and sharing or signposting data and evidence on one of more global goal to aid programme delivery, inform our influencing and support our fundraising and communications.

    The Evidence Uptake Advisor will take a hand on approach to understanding and servicing different user groups’ needs for evidence and data. Others will generate the primary data and evidence, and the Evidence Uptake Advisor will blend signposting and communication – or ‘brokerage’ – to drive and enable increased use of that evidence, with repackaging through syntheses, summaries and visualisations to make it easier for user groups to find and understand key findings.

    With a solid grounding in understanding evidence, and a strong track record of communications, networking and user-orientation, the post-holder will inspire and facilitate a culture of amplifying our impact through evidence use. This role will work closely with thematic and MEAL/ Research technical specialists to source our best data and evidence, and with a range of user groups from frontline staff in Country Offices to business development staff to senior leaders to ensure that their evidence needs are serviced with appropriate, high quality products.

    In order to be successful you will bring/have:

    EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

    • Applied experience of synthesising data and evidence in technically sound ways (e.g. literature reviews, systematic reviews, meta-analysis)
    • Proven track record in applying good practice in research/ evidence/ data uptake and usage
    • Proven track record of user/ client focus in evidence generation or uptake
    • An entrepreneurial and “can-do” attitude, with willingness to make things happen
    • Strong analytical skills and an ability to assimilate and process large amounts of information into a coherent and compelling narrative
    • Skills and experience in data and evidence communication
    • Proficiency in relevant IT solutions for data visualisation (e.g. PowerBI) and for visually appealing products (e.g. Canva, Adobe Indesign)
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, with demonstrated ability to communicate technical evidence and data clearly and convincingly to a variety of audiences
    • Proven experience of building personal networks, resulting in securing significant new opportunities for the organisation;
    • Experience of working for an international humanitarian organisation, including developing-country experience
    • Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work collaboratively in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
    • The ability to manage and juggle a complex and varied workload, at times working independently, at others working to tight deadlines under time pressure
    • Ability and willingness to change work practices and hours in the event of emergencies

    Content Curation Officer

    Role Purpose:

    The role holder will be part of the Knowledge Management and Learning team within the Evidence & Learning team, part of Program Quality and Impact. The purpose of the Knowledge Management and Learning function is to support continuous improvement of our impact for children by ensuring that Save the Children consistently identifies, generates, applies, and shares Program Quality and Impact knowledge and Knowledge Management best practices in support of the delivery of our strategic objectives and our global breakthroughs for children.

    Specifically, the role holder will be responsible for supporting the Global Program Quality and Impact team to upload, tag and organise internal thematic resources effectively and efficiently on the Resource Centre, as well as create compelling collections and communications materials, so that they are effectively shared with the rest of the Save the Children movement.

    EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

    Essential:

    • Good Computer Literacy skills, including the ability to manage, or learn to manage, a WordPress content management system
    • Experience of effective project organization/management
    • Strong interpersonal and cultural awareness skills, and the ability to develop productive relationships across a wide range of stakeholders in a diverse, international environment
    • Strong orientation towards continuous improvement in user experience or customer service
    • Experience conducting interviews and/or developing surveys using Survey Monkey or Microsoft Forms
    • Good level of IT competency, strong knowledge and skills in Microsoft Excel
    • A strong attitude for precision, thorough attention for detail and passion for quality
    • Collecting quantitative data and undertaking simple analysis (graphic displays, presenting trends, etc.)
    • Fluency in English with excellent written and verbal communications skills and a passion for creative and effective communications

    Regional Gender Equality Technical Advisor - East and Southern Africa Regional Office

    ROLE PURPOSE:

    The Regional Gender Equality Technical Advisor for the East and Southern Africa regional office will guide the region’s implementation of Save the Children’s Global Gender Equality Policy, using their in-depth contextual understanding, technical and practical expertise, and relationship building skills to define and deliver our strategic ambition for advancing gender equality across the region. 

    They will provide timely, quality and demand-driven technical assistance to our 12 Country Offices in the region, including technical support to design and implementation of high-quality programmes to ensure our work is grounded on intersectional gender and power analysis, and advance gender equality to ensure that children, girls and boys can equitably access, participate within, benefit from and act as decision makers for both emergency and development programming.

    The role supports regional advocacy and influencing and includes a focus on external representation on priority issues including child-centred gender and power analysis, girls’ empowerment, gender-based violence and other topics central to gender transformative child rights-based approaches across thematic areas. As well as driving strategic partnerships for new business development, and working closely with partners, especially women’s/girls’ rights and gender equality-focused organizations, in East and Southern Africa, supporting the on-going ownership and agency of local organisations.  

    It provides leadership and supports to the design and implementation of gender transformative monitoring and evaluation systems to demonstrate impact, while sharing learning across our programmes, teams and partners to support cross-regional and global learning.  This role will provide leadership for and nurture a Regional Gender Equality Community of Practice, as well as engage closely in global Gender Equality technical leaderships structures, ensuring cross-learning, coordination and alignment. The role will provide thought leadership and guide system strengthening, setting standards and driving technical excellence in close collaboration with in-country gender equality advisors, coordinators and/or focal persons.

    In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

    In order to be successful, you will bring/have:

    QUALIFICATIONS 

    • Master’s degree in Women and Gender Studies or related degree with focus on gender equality in international development, social work, public health, sociology, anthropology or related area, or equivalent experience

    EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

    • At least 7 years’ experience (including field experience) providing technical leadership for the design and implementation of humanitarian and development programmes focused on advancing gender equality
    • Strong understanding of gender equality principles and practices, the gender equality sector, policy priorities and key gender inequalities impacting children in East and Southern Africa
    • Proven senior level experience leading diverse, complex initiatives and virtual teams to achieve agreed objectives; including demonstrated experience designing, implementing and reporting upon thematic/cross-cutting strategies and/or policies
    • Significant experience in gender equality training, capacity building and mentoring, and a demonstrated ability to make complex concepts compelling and accessible
    • Demonstrated knowledge and skills related to intersectional gender and power analysis, and to the design, piloting, implementation and evaluation of innovative technical tools and resource to advance gender equality 
    • Track record in successful business development/fundraising, designing and pitching gender transformative approaches, models and programs
    • Demonstrated strong knowledge and skills related to gender sensitive and transformative program design, monitoring and evaluation, including designing pathways to sustainable impact at scale.  
    • Experience of strategy development and planning to advance gender equality and social justice
    • Experience of context, capacity and policy analysis, grounded on intersectional gender and power analysis, and influencing and advocacy at regional/international level in order to hold duty bearers to account to advance gender equality and realise children’s rights.
    • Skilled at networking, representation and partnership development in order promote learning, strengthen civil society and mobilise resources. 
    • Able to generate and use data and evidence to innovate, deliver, learn and share what works and what doesn’t work for transforming the root causes of harmful gender norms and promoting gender equality for and with children
    • Demonstrated thought leadership expertise such as contributions to academic journals, books, articles; speaking engagements, workshop facilitation, leading conference presentations and panels
    • Experience of promoting quality and impact through at least one cross-cutting area: resilience and climate change; adaptive and safer programming; child rights; disability; migration and displacement.
    • Experience of supporting humanitarian preparedness, response and recovery
    • Fluent in English and high level of English writing skills.
    • Contract duration: 2 year
