    Technical Operator Boiler

    The candidate should be ready to work in any part of the Country preferably Kisumu

    Roles

    Administrative Functions

    • Responsible for all Health and Safety activities in the Boiler House.
    • Raising Safety Information Record Cards to promote safe working environment

    Technical Functions

    • Safe operation of Boilers and all other auxiliary (Boiler Support) equipment in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures and Safe Operating Practices.
    • Carry out autonomous maintenance tasks i.e. Cleaning, Inspection, Lubrication and Tightening in the above mentioned plants and report through the SAP notification process.
    • Perform Short interval Controls (SICs) checks on Boilers and Boiler Support Equipment, and record the findings accordingly.
    • Carry out Thermal Combustion Efficiency Analysis and retain the records accordingly.
    • Read HFO and Steam Meter Readings and retain the record of the results accordingly and identify any over usage for action.
    • Carry out scheduled preventive maintenance activities at the defined frequencies.
    • Track HFO stokes, and escalate any foreseeable risks in advance so as to get Senior Leadership Support and Mitigation Plans.
    • Apply various problem solving techniques e.g. 5 Why, Fishbone to resolve breakdown and prevent re-occurrence of the same.
    • Follow the defined Escalation Matrix to report any plant breakdowns and issues that may pause a risk to Production Plan and Healthy running of the equipment.
    • Strict adherence to Good Operating Practices (GOPs) and relevant Management standards e.g. Quality Management Standards, Occupational Health & Safety Standards, Environmental and Food Safety Standards
    • Write handover reports at the end of the shift and conduct a proper handover to the incoming team
    • Attend and positively contribute in all shift handover and Tier 1 meetings and observe timely closure of all action

    Continuous Improvement

    • Identifying water saving opportunities within the water Plant and in the Consumer areas and communicating the same to the Utilities Engineer for Consideration and  Implementation
    • Take part in ‘Improve the Business’ Projects that are aimed at optimizing processes, eliminating wastages and reducing costs.

    Job Qualifications

    • Diploma in Mechanical / Plant Engineering/ Electrical
    • Not less than 4 years’ experience in a busy production or maintenance environment with specific responsibility for Health and Safety
    • Certification for Boiler Operation by an authorised body, as required by law.

    • Conduct meter readings for all Incomer and Consumer meters and record accordingly. Establish recovery plans for any over usage.
    • Carry out scheduled preventive maintenance activities at the defined frequencies in the Water Treatment Plant and Effluent Treatment Plant.
    • Track Water stokes and KIWASCO flowrates, and escalate any foreseeable risks in advance so as to get Senior Leadership Support and Mitigation Plans.

    Site Lead & Utilities Engineer

    This role works directly with the Facilities & Utilities Manager and with the other Departmental Heads.

    The candidate should be ready to work in any part of the Country preferably Kisumu

    Job Responsibilities

    • To execute the asset care strategy with a view to driving continuous improvement in equipment reliability, performance, availability and maintenance cost effectiveness
    • To provide leadership in ensuring asset care excellence, providing functional asset care advice, driving World Class Asset Care Ways of Working, managing SAP based asset care system and driving asset care capability/competencies development
    • Actively initiate preventative maintenance planning, ensuring that all maintenance work is risk assessed, appropriate resources made available and utilized effectively and all maintenance tasks are executed without conflicting with production requirements
    • Minimize and eliminate where possible, losses associated with machine down time through timely resolution of machine breakdowns and driving a zero loss mind-set through engineering work order initiation and completion.
    • In liaison with the SHEQ Manager, participate in regular inspections/audits for good housekeeping and machine safety and ensure agreed actions are completed.
    • In consultation with the Site Leadership Team (SLT), coordinate setup of plant equipment in accordance with Company policy and procedures in order to achieve product quality targets at minimal waste levels.
    • Proactively rectify issues that have a negative impact on quality, complete plant improvement activities prioritized by the SLT to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
    • In liaison with the Production and Plant Productivity Managers, initiate and sustain the Autonomous Maintenance activities (e.g. tagging, lubricating, cleaning, team meetings, step audits and board updating, elimination of contamination sources and elimination of hard to access areas).
    • Ensure availability of quality information on breakdowns resolution and that engineering work orders are raised in a timely manner.
    • Pro-actively supporting Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Good Operating Practices (GOPs) activities and providing feedback and promoting its application in the factory.
    • In liaison with the Plant Productivity Manager, proactively identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
    • Formulate and implement maintenance procedures for planned and corrective activities
    • Ensure that the utilities plant is running efficiently at all times.
    • Carry out regular inspections of the utilities plant and resolve issues as well as planning and overseeing all repair and installation activities.
    • Ensure that environment, health and safety procedures are complied with at all times.
    • Coordinate and supervise various third party Utilities area service providers ensuring quality of service in their scope of delivery.
    • Develop a clear plan on transfer of knowledge to those appointed to operate the equipment, supervise the process and coach and mentor assigned staff.
    • Formulate and implement training programs and on the job mentorship for all Utility employees.
    • Develop and implement maintenance program to meet production requirements of plant availability, safety, and product quality.
    • Management of spare parts & materials stocking and usage to ensure the effective maintenance of plant.
    • Plan for and facilitate statutory inspections of plant & equipment to ensure their use is in compliance with all legal requirements.
    • Identify and Implement energy management program to attain and sustain economic/efficient usage of fuel and electricity in the plant.

    Requirements

    • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in engineering in Plant or Mechanical Engineering.
    • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a busy manufacturing environment, three of which should be at management level. Candidates with experience in the beverage industry will have an added advantage.
    • Must be registerable by the Engineers Board of Kenya.
    • Excellent team leadership skills, communication, organization and presentation skills
    • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
    • Ability to read, analyses, interpret technical data.
    • Ability to effectively present information and answer queries.
    • Computer Literate
