    Consultant Instructional Designer, East Africa

    Specific Responsibilities Include

    In close collaboration with the EA Senior Facilitator, EA Hub staff, EA partner organizations, and WomenLift design team:

    • Design and develop culturally relevant original content based on WomenLift and partner organization’s needs. This includes:
    • Assess the needs of partner organizations to drive the content development process 
    • Align with WomenLift team and partner organizations on specific goals and outcomes that any module or curriculum is hoping to address 
    • Run ideation sessions 
    • Conduct research on content topics 
    • Design, develop, and finalize for publication all materials for original content modules such as facilitation guides, ppts, speaker notes, workbooks, reference guides, handouts, overviews of materials, etc.
    • This includes supporting finalization of other modules developed by WomenLift Health 
    • Contextualize and adapt pre-existing content for WomenLift and our partner organizations. 
    • As part of the design and contextualization process:
    • Use a human-centered design approach 
    • Ensure content is relevant to the needs and learning styles of specific institutions, health systems, and cultures. 
    • Track the changes made to pre-developed content in our contextualization mapping systems 
    • Reference our glossary and style guide for language guidance 
    • Share learnings and insights with the team throughout the process 
    • Identify and respond to East Africa Hub needs for the curricula to be expanded or go deeper to meet the needs of the audience 
    • Support development of communication materials related to the content 
    • Document lessons learned from specific institutions and document the common training needs across different institutions 
    • Contribute to monitoring, evaluation, and learning systems and processes 
    • Stay abreast of new learnings and best practices related to instructional design 

    Scope of Work

    • Ad hoc, based on project needs.
    • Work closely with East Africa Leadership Development and Communications team as well as the Cross-Regional Design team on an as-needed basis.
    • Time Frame for Guaranteed Scope of Work: beginning upon hire for 6 months; option to renew depending on performance

    Required Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Ability:

    • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in related field
    • Minimum 5 years’ experience in leadership training curriculum development for diverse, East African audiences 

    Expertise on Instructional Design, including:

    • Proven ability to independently design and develop curricula as well as processes, systems, and tools to prioritize, adapt, contextualize, and create instructional products for learners across different cultures 
    • Knowledge of learning theories and ID models, and how/when to employ them. 
    • Ability to apply and adjust ID models, and the skill to improve and refine them for future use. 
    • Ability to take a human-centered approach to instruction that places the learner at the center of the experience, matching desired outcomes with the needs of the learners. 
    • Have a strong command of the English language as it is written and spoken professionally both within East Africa and internationally 
    • Proven ability to collaborate and co-create within teams 
    • Depth of experience, maturity and confidence, ability to learn and adapt, befitting an instructional designer 
    • Proactive, self-starter, able to work independently while communicating important information and asking questions 
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Demonstrated success in following through and successfully completing projects in a timely manner
    • Value human connection and are strongly aligned with WomenLift Health’s Mission, Vision, Culture, and Values
    • Skill with Microsoft Office suite, Miro, Slack, email, and other technologies.

    Preferred (not Required) Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills And Ability

    • Master’s degree highly preferred 
    • Familiarity with and/or strong interest in public and/or global health, leadership development, and/or gender equality 
    • Instructional design experience for international audiences 
    • Knowledge of digital & online learning 
    • Facilitation experience 
    • Skill with Adobe suite of tools such as InDesign or Photoshop 
    • Fluency in additional languages, especially French or Swahili

    Communications Lead

    • WomenLift Health is seeking an experienced, innovative and dynamic Communications Lead to develop and drive an integrated brand and content strategy across all platforms. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and overseeing editorial, copyediting and stakeholder management with a focus on driving engagement and action among our key stakeholders as well as building broad brand recognition and credibility. We are looking for a creative leader with a superior editorial skillset who also brings a strategic, analytical, creative and innovative approach to the work. Reporting to the WomenLift Health Communication and Engagement Director, this individual must thrive in a dynamic and creative work environment, be a self-starter and a passionate change agent for advancing women’s leadership.

    Responsibilities And Tasks

    • Create and execute an integrated content strategy for WomenLift Health across platforms, that supports the organization’s objectives and drives engagement with key audiences. 
    • Conceptualize and produce editorial guides that inform our organisation’s tone and voice while understanding and consistently reflecting the brand voice of the organisation in writing style.
    • Support our content writing initiatives by editing and working with internal and external stakeholders to deliver quality content for diverse channels
    • Translate complex health, leadership and science jargon to actionable communication outputs for a diverse pool of audiences and stakeholders. 
    • Support in the organisations story telling agenda
    • Lead the review of our content across website, social media platforms, email newsletters, and branded content. Ensure it is on message, differentiated and resonates with target audiences. 
    • Collaborate with country/regional counterparts as the program rolls out geographically to optimize contextual impact while telling a consistent and compelling global narrative. 
    • Identify and facilitate new content opportunities, exploring ways to repurpose existing content in the WomenLift Health repository to position the brand’s thought leadership. 
    • Generate fresh, creative ideas for initiatives and campaigns across channels, and work with cross regional teams and agency to execute on them. 
    • Drive participation in WomenLift Health-hosted events through creative content and promotional strategies. 
    • Translate relevant trends/news and develop responses that are authentic and appropriate for WomenLift Health, advancing an overall communications strategy. 
    • Manage freelance writers and editors, as well as video content producers, and assign prioritized content projects. 
    • Review the quality of team members’ content to ensure it aligns with the WomenLift Health brand/tone-of-voice and messaging. 
    • Bring a strong data analytics capability and Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) commitment to the work to help inform and adjust the strategy, as needed. 
    • Set short- and long-term goals and measure effectiveness of the content on a monthly, quarterly and yearly basis. 

    Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills And Ability

    • Bachelor's degree, Master's degree preferred in communications, public relations, journalism or other related field. 
    • 10+ years of full-time content development and/or editorial experience preferably in an area related to gender equality, women’s leadership and/or global health. With at least 5 years of experience in a Senior Lead role. 
    •  Strong analytical skill set and ability to make data-driven decisions. 
    • A highly strategic and innovative leader who is self-motivated and seeks and identifies opportunities to advance WomenLift Health’s goals. 
    • Ability to manage through ambiguity, establish process and structure to help the team operate more effectively and efficiently. 
    • Superb writing and editing skills with rigorous attention to detail. 
    • Excellent project management skills 
    • Highly organized and a critical, creative thinker under pressure. 
    • Proactive, self-starter able to work independently. 
    • An ability to cultivate team members and effectively collaborate with team members and external partners. 
    • Proven ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment that requires initiative, flexibility, ingenuity, resilience and commitment.
    • May require up to 15% travel

    Communications Coordinator

    • WomenLift Health is seeking a communications Coordinator to work under the direction of the WomenLift Health East Africa Communication Manager to contribute to the implementation and support of the communications function to achieve WomenLift Health’s objectives.
    • The communication coordinator will work closely with the Communication Manager, East Africa, and other members of the small and nimble globally distributed WomenLift Health team to contribute to building, and implementing the East Africa communication strategy and raising the WomenLift Health brand identity and visibility in East Africa.
    • The Communications Coordinator should be a strategic storyteller, a self-starter with a strong work ethic, someone who pays close attention to detail and takes initiative. They should have an eye on constant improvement and support streamlining of systems and processes related to the East Africa Leadership Journey and other programs being run by the East Africa team. The ideal candidate should be able to work adeptly both independently and in a team.

    Responsibilities And Tasks

    • Support the implementation of the East Africa communication strategy 
    • Support generating captivating and informative content across multiple channels, including website, social media, newsletters, and press releases that showcases our impact, initiatives, and success. 
    • Facilitate seamless internal communication by disseminating relevant updates, announcements, and resources to team members and the East Africa Leadership journey’s eco-system, fostering a culture of transparency and collaboration. 
    • Ensure consistency and integrity of our brand identity and messaging across all communication channels, upholding our brand values and enhancing brand recognition. 
    • Support the planning and execution of East Africa’s impactful events by coordinating communication efforts, promoting attendance, and maximizing engagement. 
    • Support in monitoring East Africa’s communication activities, analyze metrics, and derive actionable insights to optimize communication strategies, enhance engagement, and drive continuous improvement.

    Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills And Ability

    • Bachelor's degree in communication, journalism, marketing or related field. 
    • 4+ years’ experience in communication for nonprofit, media, academic, or research organizations 
    • Exceptional writing, editing, and creative management skills, and mastery of key principles for communicating research, with accuracy, in ways that non-technical audiences can understand 
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders 
    • Strong aptitude for visual and interactive content creation in addition to text-based content 
    • Familiarity with content creation tools (Adobe suite, Canva, etc.) 
    • Excellent communication skills, including attention to detail and ability to effectively multi-task with a willingness to perform a wide range of tasks 
    • Ability to demonstrate inclusiveness, collaboration, respect and broad organizational interests 
    • Proactive, self-starter able to work independently 
    • Fluency in English (written, spoken, reading) 
    • Experience in and a passion for global public health and gender equality
