    Visual and Perfoming Arts

    Department: Education

    Direct Supervisor: Head of Teaching and learning

    Compensation: Dependent on experience

    We are now seeking an open-minded, thoughtful and creative Arts teacher to join our team. You will inspire and educate children in basic Arts classes for new students  as well as visual and performing arts which follows the prestigious International Baccalaureate (IB) programme.     Candidates will be preferred based upon their capacity to complement the Arts department’s existing skill sets, which currently are focused upon Theatre, Dance and some Visual Arts. We therefore are seeking candidates who specialise in Music and Visual Arts such as drawing, sculpture and crafts.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Plan, deliver and facilitate dynamic, active, and creative Music and Visual Arts lessons for diverse classes of students aged 10-15. Create enhanced opportunities for real-life applications of concepts using available resources and project based learning.
    • Review and monitor the progress of all students and identify their individual learning needs. Differentiate instruction to meet those needs of the students, providing extra support to those students who are below grade level.
    • Sensitively and appropriately provide pastoral care to our students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Handle urgent situations with consummate professionalism and in accordance with our Discipline Policy and Safeguarding Policy, utilising the school’s support network as necessary.
    • Conduct regular formative and summative assessments, recording and reporting grades and performance.
    • Attend and participate in regular professional development activities.
    • Help our school excel with your participation and leadership in community engagement, competitions, school trips and other activities.
    • Contribute to the development and leadership of our extracurricular programmes.
    • Under the supervision of the Head of Teaching and Learning, provide feedback on quality and wellbeing to ensure programmes are designed, implemented, monitored, and evaluated to maximise positive impact on vulnerable children.

    ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

    • Demonstrate the attributes of the “IB Profile” (https://www.ibo.org/benefits/learner-profile/), in particular ‘risk-takers’, ‘open-minded’ and ‘reflective’;
    • Excellent written and oral English 
    • Academic or Professional Certificates;
    • Completion of CRB/Background check;
    • Bachelor’s degree in Arts, Education or related field or equivalent training and experience;
    • At least two years of teaching experience;
    • Competent ICT skills;
    • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills;
    • Ability to mentor students on a daily basis;
    • Resilience in a challenging and changing environment;
    • The curiosity and willingness to develop and practice modern teaching techniques;
    • Determined team player.

    Economics Teacher

    Area: Education

    Direct Supervisor: Head of teaching and Learning

    The Economics Teacher will join the Education Department and will be responsible for teaching a diverse population of eager students in the first International School for refugee and disadvantaged children in Kenya. This position involves working both independently and with a teaching team. The Economics Teacher will be an inspiring, proactive, and energetic person with strong mentoring abilities.  Someone curious, ambitious and eager to explore new and challenging didactic techniques.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Lesson Planning: Plan, deliver and facilitate dynamic, active, and creative language lessons for a diverse class of 10-17 year olds.
    • Progress Monitoring: Review and monitor the progress of all students and identify their individual learning needs in collaboration with the School Principal.
    • Reporting and Admin: Managing all admin tasks such as attendance and assessment reporting to the School Principal
    • Curriculum Design: All teachers are expected to design and develop different levels of History  curricula, following specific given guidelines, but integrating to them new and ambitious teaching and educational techniques, working independently and as a part of the team.
    • Behavioural Management: Managing students with differing life experiences and adverse childhood experiences in collaboration with the School Principal and the Child Protection Officer.
    • Professional Development:  Attend trainings and professional development meetings.

    ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

    • Native or proficient knowledge of the English language written and oral;
    • Kenyan nationality;
    • Teaching Service Commission (TSC) Number;
    • Academic or Professional Certificates;
    • Bachelors in Education or equivalent Economics teaching experience considered;
    • At least two years  teaching experience;
    • Completion of CRB/Background check;
    • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and teaching skills;
    • Ability to mentor students on a daily basis;
    • Commitment and willingness to work in a challenging and changing environment;
    • Curiosity, ambition, willingness to create and experiment new teaching techniques;
