    Actuarial Valuations Specialist, P&C

    JOB SUMMARY

    1. Ensure provision of Actuarial Services to UAP Old Mutual East Africa Group by working closely with the Business Entities and other Group Functions to meet their needs. This includes reserving, pricing, product reviews, experience reviews and solvency and capital management
    2. Conducts accuracy checks, and analyses data to draw conclusions and make recommendations
    3. Generate actuarial reports on various technical issues to Head of Actuarial GI & Health, Group Actuary, Senior Management and Board of Directors.
    4. through own efforts.

    KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Technical Actuarial Support; Conduct and/or review internal actuarial liability valuations for relevant insurance subsidiaries and analysis of profitability/surplus,
    2. Review of external actuaries’ report and collaboration with the appointed actuaries to produce the Financial Condition Report for P&C business.
    3. Product Profitability Review; Perform profitability analysis, experience analysis, and other relevant actuarial investigations for UAP BUs to inform business decisions.
    4. Solvency and Capital management; Carry out solvency computation for the BUs on a risk-based capital basis including solvency stress tests.
    5. Financial Modeling; assist with financial modeling of business scenarios/projects to inform business decision making.
    6. Strategy and Business Planning Support; assist with business planning financial projections and solvency projections for the Business Units. Perform stress and scenario analysis on the plan numbers.
    7. IFRS 17 Project Support; Work closely with the IFRS 17 project and technical lead to deliver on the key project milestones and assist with the dry runs and transitions.
    8. Reinsurance Support; Carry out a reinsurance analysis for the East Africa subsidiaries to explore ways to optimize on reinsurance arrangements.
    9. Reporting and Documentation; Presentation of results and reports to businesses and subsidiary boards committees. Preparation of Board Papers and regulatory solvency and valuation reports.
    10. Risk Management support; assist the P&C Business Units and Risk Department in identifying, quantifying risk (insurance, market, credit risks etc.) where appropriate. Formulate appropriate risk mitigation measures for the BUs and develop a risk register for an enterprise in CURA (Risk System).
    11. Investment Strategy support; Develop/formulate appropriate investment strategies and/or review and monitoring of investment strategies for UAP-Old Mutual life businesses.
    12. Other reasonable duties that may be assigned by management.

    5. Solvency and Capital management; Carry out solvency computation for the BUs on a risk-based capital basis including solvency stress tests.

    7. Reporting and Documentation; Assist the Senior Actuarial Valuations Specialist in the preparation of Board Papers and regulatory solvency and valuation reports.

    This role is responsible for carrying out technical actuarial work often using complex systems and packages and for signing off work of more junior actuarial specialists. The incumbent has responsibility for specific deliveries and is individually accountable for achieving results through own efforts.

    Job Description

    This role is responsible for collating statistical information into reporting solutions to satisfy business requirements.

    KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Assist in designing and implementing scalable and robust processes for ingesting and transforming complex datasets.
    2. Designs, develops, constructs, maintains and supports data pipelines for ETL from a multitude of sources.
    3. Creates blueprints for data management systems to centralize, protect, and maintain data sources.
    4. Focused on data stewardship and curation, the data engineer enables the data scientist to run their models and analyses to achieve the desired business outcomes
    5. Ingest large, complex data sets that meet functional and non-functional requirements.

    8. Supports the organisation’s cloud strategy and aligns to the data achitecture and governance including the implementation of these data governance practices.
    9. Engineer data in the appropriate formats for downstream customers, risk and product analytics or enterprise applications.
    10. Development of API’s for returning data to Enterprise Applications.
    11. Assist in identifying, designing and implementing robust process improvement activities to drive efficiency and automation for greater scalability. This includes looking at new solutions and new ways of working and being on the forefront of emerging technologies.
    12. Work with various stakeholders across the organisation to understand data requirements and apply technical knowledge of data management to solve key business problems.
    13. Provide support in the operational environment with all relevant support teams for data services.
    14. Provide input into the management of demand across the various data streams and use cases.
    15. Create and maintain functional requirements and system specifications in support of data architecture and detailed design specifications for current and future designs.
    16. Support test and deployment of new services and features.
    17. Provides technical leadership to junior data engineers in the team
