    Incubation Coordinator

    Reporting to: Chair, Incubation and Innovation Center (I2C), School of Graduate Studies, Research, and Extension (SGSRE)

    Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Work with SGSRE Dean, I2C Chair, and I2C volunteers to develop strategies to recruit, attract, retain, and exit innovative entrepreneurs and startups.
    2. Work with I2C Chair to design market surveys and focus groups to assess market needs.
    3. Coordinate the design of incubation and acceleration programs that meet the market needs. The programs should 1) be treated as a experiential applied learning for USIU-Africa students and alumni or 2) enhance ideation, investment and scale ups for external incubatees or interested USIU-Africa students and alumni.
    4. Be part of I2C team that coaches, mentors, and offers advisory services to incubate entrepreneurs, USIU-A students, alumni and staff.
    5. Coordinate the coaching hours of affiliated I2C faculty (including the Chair and other interested USIU-Africa faculty and staff), alumni, and senior students for incubates.
    6. Coordinate the external mentor’s initiative in a spreadsheet or website that ensure targets are agreed upon, mentor meetings occur, and targets are met for incubatees.
    7. Coordinate the day-to-day activities of I2C.
    8. Support incubatees in linkages towards raising funds.
    9. Work with I2C Chair and SGSRE Dean to develop proposals for funding.
    10. Coordinate schedule of monthly I2C team meetings led by the I2C Chair.
    11. Liaise with security over the comprehensive list of those approved to access I2C’s physical space.
    12. Attend trainings to improve skills in social entrepreneurship facilitation and proposal writing as appropriate.
    13. Schedule I2C focus groups for incubatees with prospective customers.
    14. Manage relationships with a wide array of stakeholders including entrepreneurs, faculty, students, donors, investors, mentors, and coaches amongst others.
    15. Connect entrepreneurs to available resources.
    16. Coordinate and enhance the existing calendar of events for I2C on a rolling semester basis.
    17. Prepare semester reports on the achievements and activities of I2C.

    Required Skills

    Required Qualifications

    1. Experience working with social enterprises.
    2. At least two years’ experience in mentoring, coaching, and training entrepreneurs.
    3. At least five years’ experience working with entrepreneurs and startups in a business incubation or acceleration set up.
    4. Evidence of successful implementation of donor-funded programs.
    5. Previous experience providing technical assistance and developing successful proposals for external donor funding is required.
    6. Bachelor’s degree in business related field with courses taken in entrepreneurship.

    Desirable

    1. Work towards or completion of master’s degree in business related field.
    2. Experience launching and managing a business startup.
    3. Experience on youth-focused donor or social enterprise programs.

    Interactive Media Specialist/Designer/Developer

    Key Responsibilities/Tasks/Duties:

    1. Apply visual design best practice principles to the design and development of static and interactive elements (graphics, videos, animations, interactive simulations, etc.), while maintaining university branding/graphics standards.
    2. Manage multiple, simultaneous projects to reach targets, staying on schedule and on budget.
    3. Understand and maintain the branding identity strategy for programs.
    4. Create multimedia content for a variety of media platforms.
    5. Record and edit video and audio and provide direction/assistance to students who assist with video editing and export.
    6. Perform usability testing and quality assurance of media elements used across platforms. Ensure media is accessible for all users, including those with disabilities.
    7. Provide initial conception (storyboarding, etc.) and estimates for media development. Develop layout and concept designs for approvals.
    8. Collaborate closely with a variety of stakeholders, both internal and external, on all aspects of projects, including planning, content, production level and platforms, turnaround time, corrections, approvals and project estimates.
    9. Leverage analytics to determine the effectiveness of activities and make continual improvements determined by department needs.
    10. Perform other duties as assigned.

    Knowledge /Education /Work Experience:

    Required:

    1. Diploma or Higher National Diploma (HND) – preferred, but a Bachelors of Arts in graphics design and multimedia or related discipline will be an added advantage.
    2. Minimum 3 years’ experience developing instructional presentations, simulations, videos, and animations.
    3. Experience with multimedia, graphic design, web design, including familiarity with accessibility issues.
    4. Demonstrated proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite tools to develop a variety of animations, videos, and visual educational materials.
    5. Knowledge of, and expertise in, Articulate Storyline and Adobe Captivate (or similar) to create structured presentations.
    6. Experience sourcing and modifying stock images, illustrations, and video illustrations to further convey the instructional message.
    7. Experience supporting teams virtually.
    8. Effective Communication skills.

    Preferred:

    1. Experience in developing simulations, learning games, and story based or problem-based learning experiences.
    2. On location photo and video capture experience, Sony equipment preferred.
    3. Premiere Pro and Photoshop video and photo editing experience preferred.
    4. Passion for designing and creating custom eLearning modules and presentations for deployment on a variety of devices.
    5. Enjoys collaboratively working within a creative team to research new ideas and pilot cutting-edge educational materials.
    6. Experience project managing and collaborating with vendors.
    7. Digital portfolio of previous projects.
    8. Experience working with a learning management system (LMS) a plus.
    9. Experience working with subject matter experts and geographically distributed teams to transform instructional concepts to deliverables a plus.
    10. Familiarity with configuring, importing, and exporting SCORM packages.
    11. Knowledge of Open Educational Resources (OER).
    12. Understanding of different licensing arrangements for digital resources.
    13. Ability to collect data, create reports, and prepare written communication with an attention to detail and accuracy.
    14. Commitment to promote quality, equitable and inclusive education through eLearning.

    Post-Doctoral Research Scientist in Impact Evaluation

    Duties and responsibilities

    Technical leadership and support

    • Leading the design and implementation of development-related impact evaluations and research studies;
    • Support NIERA members in adoption of impact evaluation designs in research studies including complex impact evaluations based on modern practices such as Interrupted time series (ITS), Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs), cluster-randomized designs, step-wedge designs among others; and
    • Develop and deepen innovative approaches to impact evaluation e.g., through training of researchers at the center in IE methodology, developing and writing papers that utilize IE methodologies in peer-reviewed journals, engaging with IE communities of practice to strengthen NIERAs’ visibility in IE practice, etc.

    Fundraising for IE sustainability

    • Lead the resource mobilization for IE projects to ensure that NIERA sustains its IE mandate to the foreseeable future;
    • Support proposal writing and other fundraising activities geared towards leveraging funds to broaden the current mandate of NIERA and
    • Actively collaborate with and contribute to the work of other objective areas to strengthen NIERA’s impact evaluation mandate.
    • Management of Impact Evaluation Projects
    • Establish, monitor, and update work plans and budgets for Impact Evaluation projects;
    • Oversee mobilization of evaluation teams, including organizing and managing team planning meetings and overseeing all necessary logistical preparations for field data collection;
    • Support Country Leaders to identify, recruit and train the research assistants, support teams technically, assist in orienting consultant team members to the procedures of working with NIERA;
    • Assure high-quality deliverables and evaluation reports;
    • Support development of IEs including background and supporting research for ongoing/upcoming IEs and oversight of survey development;
    • Manage IE datasets throughout the evaluation life-cycle from coordination of local data collection partners to data management and cleaning to preliminary analysis;
    • Support the impact evaluation team to develop, review and finalize evaluation analysis plans, evaluation frameworks, and contribute to drafting of work plans, data collection tools, and field monitoring tools for each IE activity;
    • Work with Project Evaluation Team to provide timely updates and reports on evaluation activities as needed;
    • Participate and/or support the dissemination of findings; and
    • Perform any other tasks required to advance the Network’s objectives.

    Key Competencies, qualifications and experience:

    • PhD in Social Sciences including Development Economics, Public Health, Epidemiology with specialization in Impact Evaluation of development projects.
    • Advanced skills in econometrics/statistics and quantitative methods.
    • Ability to conduct large-scale surveys in developing countries and handle large datasets using standard econometric software (STATA, SAS, R, etc.).
    • Work experience (of at least 3 years) in project evaluation and impact analysis is essential.
    • Demonstrated experience in in-depth impact analysis methods, and experimental and quasi-experimental methods applied in impact evaluation (RCT, Instrumental Variable, propensity score matching, and interrupted time series).
    • Experience designing and implementing one or more of the following: implementation research, process evaluations, formative research, qualitative research.
    • Excellent written, presentation, and communication skills; ability to present arguments and analysis in a structured and succinct manner.
    • Strong quantitative skills and ability to work with large data sets.
    • Ability to work independently; self-starter and highly motivated.
    • Strong statistical knowledge in particular for the design of impact evaluations.
    • Proficiency in English is required.
    • Working knowledge of the East African region.
