    Manager, Volunteer Services East Africa

    Job Summary

    Aga Khan University is looking for a highly motivated and dynamic individual to fill the position of Manager, Volunteer Services East Africa. Reporting to the Regional Director, Human Resources, the Manager, Volunteer Services East Africa will play an integral role in the management and overseeing of the entire volunteer experience for AKU East Africa. He/she will ensure compliance with relevant AKU, local, and national regulations. In addition, he/she will support with hiring, development, retention, and exit, as well as coaching and advising management teams on how to benefit and engage with the Volunteer services.

    Main Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Coordinate all activities at AKU East Africa in respect of voluntary work force within the scope of volunteer service.
    • Develop and execute strategies to attract Volunteers to AKU East Africa.
    • Identify needs and opportunities to partner with volunteers within East Africa, working together with Heads of Function and Departments
    • Orientate and onboard new Volunteers to the company and country, its culture, and its policies, as well as manage off boarding processes for transitioning Volunteers.
    • Create and conduct training for employees and volunteers on engagement and work experience and to support skills transfer and best practice sharing.
    • Design and implement the volunteer experience frameworks and identify opportunities to enhance the volunteer experience.
    • Measure and report on impact of Volunteers to promote the AKU brand and implement measures to proactively increase the impact Volunteers within East Africa

    Key Requirements and Person Specifications:

    • Have a bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business administration, or other allied fields
    • Must have not less than four (4) years of experience in human resources or related field
    • Have a demonstrable and thorough understanding of volunteer services management.
    • Have practical experience in resourcing and employe or volunteer contract management.

    Specific Skills and Competencies:

    • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills,
    • Planning, organizing and effective prioritization skills
    • Ability to self-manage, and act as a role model
    • Adaptability to the changing landscape in volunteer services. An understanding of TKN procedures is an added advantage.

    Research Associate, Brain and Mind Institute

    Job Summary

    The Brain and Mind Institute (BMI) seeks to recruit an experienced and competent Research Associate to support in supervision, data collection, data curation, cleaning, analysis, and report generation for BMI’s research activities. Research Associate will be assigned to work in the upcoming Brain-Resiliency Project in Kenya. The role and responsibilities of the Research Associate may include but not be limited to supervising research assistants conducting participant recruitment, consenting participants for research in line with global standards for responsible conduct of research and human subject protection guidelines, administering structured interviews, neuropsychological tests, and questionnaires to research participants, contributing to data management by cleaning, entering, and organizing data for statistical analyses, actively participating in scientific and management committee meetings, journal clubs, and other scheduled didactics that support the project, preparing summary reports of research progress for Project Manager (PM) and Principal Investigators (PI), and completing independent research projects under the mentorship of PIs (optional but encouraged). The Research Associate is obligated to work within the required deadlines and available to BMI as requested by the PIs.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Supervise the Research Assistant(s) working in this project;
    • Ensure all study tools and equipment are procured or arranged in time;
    • Support in data management and storage of data while maintaining confidentiality;
    • Support in conducting data transcriptions and analysis of project;
    • Assist with recruiting study participants;
    • Conduct phone interviews to screen for enrollment;
    • Consent new participants and administer structured questionnaires and scales.
    • Enter data into data management software in a timely fashion;
    • Identify and troubleshoot sources of data error and report to PMs and PI, along with possible solutions;
    • Supervise the comfort level and safety of participants during all research procedures;
    • Report generation and manuscript development.

     Qualifications and skills Requirements

    • Completed or in final year of completing Master’s degree in any of the following areas: Psychology, Psychometrics, Biomedical Sciences, Data Science, Social work, or related discipline;
    • Experience managing human subjects research projects;
    • Experience supervising research assistants;
    • Experience working with community stakeholders and NGO’s is an asset;
    • Experience with quantitative data collection and analysis strategies;
    • Experience with administration of psychological measurement instruments;
    • Experience with interviewing human participants and managing psychological distress;
    • Experience with Microsoft office suite, statistical software programs, and data management platforms.

    • Supervise the comfort level and safety of participants during all research procedures;
    • Ensure that participants find correct location and provide support and encouragement to complete procedures.

    Qualifications and skills Requirements
