    Security Associate

    JOB PURPOSE

    To perform tasks related to the implementation and assessment of security measures and maintenance of equipment with a view towards providing updates and recommendations to facilitate informed decision-making and secure WFP staff, facilities and operations. 

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

    • Provide dedicated executive assistant support.
    • Prepare and/or consolidate comprehensive reports, documentation, correspondence, briefing notes, etc. and conduct research in the area of work.
    • Actively seek and use feedback to improve business processes and procedures.
    • Respond to complex business support queries in order to provide a timely and accurate resolution of enquiries for clients.
    • Oversee the maintenance of records and databases to ensure information is organized and readily available for staff and compliant with all relevant regulations and policies.
    • Revise and review correspondence and documentation, providing feedback and making amendments where appropriate, to contribute to production of these materials to time and quality standards.
    • Assist managers in planning, monitoring and reconciling budget(s) to ensure that planned financial resources are used effectively.
    • Assess and recommend improvements to procedures and practices, to contribute to the effective delivery of business support services.
    • Provide a full range of complex business support services to staff to contribute to the effective functioning of business operations.
    • Provide advice, support and/or training to junior support staff in the provision of business
    • support services, in order to support their learning in providing business support.
    • Coordinate tasks of junior colleagues to ensure support services are delivered consistently and to the required standards.

    STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Education: Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in the related functional area such as Military or Police Service. 
    • Experience: Six or more years of progressively responsible work experience in security management, investigations, law enforcement or related business stream. 


    Knowledge & Skills:

    • Specialized knowledge of the application of practical methods, techniques, procedures and systems used in security, typically gained through technical training and work experience.
    • Broad knowledge and understanding of security logistics, security administration, risk assessment and co-ordination with local authorities and local law enforcement agencies.
    • Training and experience in fire and related intervention/evacuation procedures.
    • Ability to manage emergency situations and remain calm.
    • Attention to detail and constant vigilance in order to promptly detect any breach in security measures.
    • Ability to interpret information, use judgement and inform supervisors of any incidents which might impact the UNWFP staff and operations.
    • Excellent communication skills in order to maintain frequent correspondence with both, internal staff and external authorities with regards to security advisories and security incidents.
    • Willingness to attend security trainings and comply with UNSMS standards.

    Security Assistant

    JOB PURPOSE

    To perform a range of specialized and process-oriented responsibilities related to security operations including monitoring and maintaining security equipment in line with established procedures.

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

    • Assist in reviewing security threats and risks, compile accurate reports on trends and situations that could adversely impact WFP operations to ensure information is accurately collated to support reporting and decision-making.
    • Review security-related information (e.g. security incidents and events, security support to daily activities, etc.) and use corporate or local information management tools to provide basic analyses and reports to ensure information is readily available for relevant stakeholders.
    • Liaise and coordinate with local administration, security and law enforcement authorities, communities, UN/NGO security staff and other actors to facilitate access for safe programme delivery and to mitigate potential risks against staff and other resources.
    • Assist in planning, coordinating, preparing and conducting field missions including tracking of staff, and perform regular security assessments in the area of responsibility to support safe and effective programme delivery.
    • Prepare detailed security assessment reports after field missions with risk mitigation recommendations to support security situation analysis and facilitate decision-making.
    • Assist in the formulation of advice to Country Director on security risk management matters and safety issues in compliance with the United Nations Security Management System (UNSMS).
    • Assist in implementation of all security risk management mitigating measures, including Minimum Operational Security Standards (MOSS) to ensure compliance.
    • Assist in management and maintenance of security equipment and identify new requirements to strengthen technology capacity in line with business requirements.
    • Assist in monitoring that all access control procedures are effective and stringently followed by all staff and visitors to ensure accountability and maintenance of safe and secure environment.
    • Contribute to the development and update of emergency and contingency planning documentation including physical preparations and procedures to support preparedness for a crisis.
    • Assist in identification of security training needs to support training planning and implementation to address staff development needs.
    • Supervise and provide on-the-job training to other staff supporting their development and high performance

    STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Education: Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in the related functional area such as Military or Police Service. 
    • Experience: Five or more years of progressively responsible work experience in security management, investigations, law enforcement or related business stream. 
    • Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in English & Kiswahili
