    AAR hospital is a 140-bed Level 5 private referral hospital that boasts a symphony of healing spaces that rejuvenates the soul, Nestled adjacent to the lush green canopy of Karura Forest along Kiambu Road. The Outpatient Department deliberately separated from the Emergency Unit welcomes you the ambience and beauty synonymous with AAR Hospital. This unit serves all non-urgent walk-in patients in need of care by a General Practitioner or a Specialist Doctor in any of our 20 Specialist Clinics. The Emergency Unit serves those in critical condition in need of immediate and specialized care. You can access 24 hours dialysis services and critical care consists of a fully equipped intensive care unit (ICU) with 12 beds supported by a 9-bed high dependency unit (HDU) and a 5 cot neo-natal unit (NICU). These are supported by four operating theater rooms, surgical and medical ward, Obstetrics (Maternity), Gynaecology and Paediatric wards to round up the ward complement. Within each ward, the rooms are divided into a single bed, 2-bed, 3-beds, and the largest 4-bed units all ensuite. The design of the wards ensures the dignity and privacy of the patients even in our "general four bed-rooms”.     Medical Officer -CCU

    Job Purpose

    Responsible for evaluating, diagnostics, treating, providing consultation, and admitting all patients at Critical Care Departments.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Ethically reviewing and instituting appropriate therapeutic interventions for patients admitted to critical care units or requiring critical care across the hospital.
    • Reviewing patients in other units where CCU/HDU support is needed and making appropriate decisions on interventions required.
    • Assisting in coaching and mentoring of nursing staff on various aspects of critical care and management of critical illness.
    • Performing medical procedures expected of a CCU medical officer.
    • Ensuring that high standards of diagnostic accuracy and patient care are maintained
    • Preparing medical reports and other clinical documents as required
    • Ensuring professionalism and timeliness in handling of clients at both individual and departmental level
    • Participating in continuous medical education and the development of departmental clinical protocols, quality improvement plans, and initiatives
    • Participating in research, clinical audits, and review programs for the department
    • Ensuring consistency in the clinical protocols and provision of care.
    • Ensuring regular and adequate communication with patients and relatives on clinical progress.
    • Advocating for excellent patient care and outcomes.
    • During the shift, respond immediately to Code Blue calls as the resident Code Team Leader for the hospital cardiac arrest team and actively lead the resuscitation of patients who suffer in hospital cardiac arrest
    • Attend all regularly scheduled teaching sessions for in hospital staff, including morning CMEs, journal clubs and simulation sessions (including on post night shift days)
    • Any other duty that may be assigned from time to time.

    Qualifications

    Education

    • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery
    • Valid certification in BLS and ACLS.
    • Advance Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certification an added advantage.
    • European Paediatric Advance Life Support (EPALS) certification an added advantage

    Job Experience

    • Two-years post-internship experience
    • Private practice experiences an added advantage

    Membership

    • Valid registration and annual practice license
    • Registered with Kenya Medical practitioners and Dentist Board.

    Pharmaceutical Technologist

    Job Purpose

    Providing efficient pharmacy service, to both in and outpatients as well as other users of the Pharmacy Department.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Processing prescriptions correctly and accurately for both in patient and outpatients.
    • Give accurate drug information to all patients, wards, and other user departments.
    • Preparing and labeling of extemporaneous preparations and solutions for the wards.
    • Following the laid down security and safety systems and procedures in all transactions including not sharing computer log-in and password with other staff.
    • Participating in the drug stocking process i.e. stock requisition, reception from stores, prompt shelving and keeping a tight control of pharmacy stock items.
    • Follow up to conclusion all stock issues requiring attention such as the pricing of drugs, following up patient credits, replacement of damaged or expired stocks.
    • Participating in scheduled stock takes and actively take part in stock variance reconciliation.
    • Check the expiry dates of pharmacy drugs and making sure that the short expiry drugs are returned back to the store in compliance with the Short Expiry Drug Policy.
    • Participating in the formulation and implementation of hospital policies on drug use and pharmacy standard operating procedures.
    • Assist the Pharmacist in the training of and on-boarding of new Pharmaceutical Technologists
    • Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

    Qualifications

    Education

    • Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology with 2 years’ work experience.
    • Higher National Diploma in pharmaceutical technology will be an added advantage.

    Job Experience

    • Minimum 2 years working experience.
    • Experience in a level 5 or 6 Hospital or Mission Hospital will be preferred

    Membership

    • Registered with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
    • Possession of valid annual practicing license.

    Laboratory Technologist

    Job Purpose

    Perform high quality analytical services in an efficient effective manner as per the department quality management system.

    Main Duties and Responsibilities

    • Perform all Laboratory processes/procedures in accordance with ISO 15189, quality management systems.
    • Familiarize and be updated with the requirements of all QMS implemented in the laboratory.
    • Observe/comply with Health, Safety, and security requirements in the laboratory.
    • Perform other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the laboratory manager or designee.

    Key Qualifications and Experience

    • BSc or Higher national Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology with 2 years’ work experience.
    • Registered by KMLTTB with a valid practicing license.
    • Phlebotomy training will be an added advantage.
    • Training and implementation ISO 15189 QMS will be an added advantage.

    Radiosonographer

    Job Purpose

    Provision of radiological services through procedures and policy approved.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Participate in assessing patients and their clinical requirements to determine appropriate imaging techniques.
    • Receive and prepare patients for radiology procedures
    • Communicate to the customer on radiography procedures
    • Carry out radiological investigation as per approved policies and procedures
    • Sort out images and forwarding them to the radiologist for reporting
    • Participate in assisting in more complex radiological/ sonographic procedures.
    • Provide support and reassurance to patients, taking into account their physical and psychological needs.
    • Recording imaging identification and patient documentation quickly and accurately and observing protocols to ensure compliance with the Data Protection Act and patient confidentiality.
    • Participate in supervising assistant practitioners, students and other staff, and delivering appropriate education and training.
    • Observe health and safety at work and welfare issues, including ionizing radiation regulations, to protect yourself and others.
    • Participate in ensuring that equipment is regularly checked for malfunctions and any faults are reported.
    • Participate in protection of patients and staff from radiation hazards during radiology procedures
    • Participate in carrying out radiography procedures as per approved policies and procedures
    • Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

    Qualifications

    Education

    • A degree /diploma in Radiography from a recognized training institution.
    • A higher national diploma in Ultrasound.
    • Valid membership in a professional society.
    • Up-to-date practicing license from KNRA

    Job Experience

    • Minimum 2 years working experience.
    • Experience in a level 5 or 6 Hospital or Mission Hospital will be preferred.
    • Excellent knowledge in RIS/PACS systems

    Paediatrician

    Job Purpose:

    Admitting, evaluating, diagnosing, treating, and providing consultation to patients from birth to young adulthood (21 years of age) concerning their physical, emotional and social health as well as treating acute and chronic disease including major complicated illnesses.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Undertaking clinical procedures in Accident & Emergency, Wards including critical care units, Clinics and Theatre.
    • Initial patient management, Assessing, stabilizing and determine the disposition of patients with emergent conditions consistent with medical staff policy regarding emergency and consultative call services.
    • Providing care to patients in the intensive care setting in conformance with unit policies.
    • Making decisions regarding immediate management and further referral of patients
    • Conducting ward rounds on daily basis

    • Carrying out on the job training & mentorship and supervision of Senior Registrars in the specialist recognition program and Medical Officers in the clinics and wards
