    Executive Assistant to Carbon Finance Director

    About the role

    • The Executive Assistant will provide high-level administrative support to the Carbon Finance Director within the organization. You will be responsible for managing their schedules, coordinating meetings and travel arrangements, and handling a variety of confidential and sensitive information.     Duties and Responsibilities

    • Follow up to ensure tasks delegated by the CFD to staff are carried out promptly.
    • Calendar and schedule management: Organize and maintain CFD’s calendar, schedule appointments, meetings, and calls, ensuring optimal use of their time and effective coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Meeting coordination: Prepare meeting agendas, coordinate logistics, and ensure necessary materials and resources are available. Take meeting minutes, distribute action items, and follow up on progress as required.

    Head of Government Relations and External Affairs

    About the role

    • As we navigate the business landscape, Burn is looking to hire a Head of Government Relations and External Affairs who will oversee the design and execution of our government relations and external affairs strategy and policies. This is to increase Burns’ engagements with governments, regulators, industry groups, and stakeholders across the industry.
    • As the public face of BURN, they will help to foster relations at a multinational, national regional, and global level, to ensure there is a clear understanding of BURN’s vision across these various levels. This would include engaging policymakers in our work and positioning us to be key contributors to relevant policies and debates in discussions about clean cooking and carbon.

    What will we expect you to deliver for us:          

    • Work closely with the executive team to define and own our vision, strategy, and road map for external affairs and government relations.
    • Strategically seek out issue-aligned stakeholders (business chambers, trade associations, advocacy organizations, non-profits, and policy think tanks) to build coalitions that serve to further our agenda, codes of practice, legislation, and policy shaping to better influence the conversation on business-critical issues.
    • Serve as a public face for BURN, representing the company in public, private, and professional forums addressing policy issues regarding the cookstove and carbon offsetting industry.
    • Serve as BURN’s primary representative to external business organizations and, as appropriate, contribute to boards and committees which provide a platform to represent our interests and commitment to our vision.
    • Identify and lead the analysis of proposed legislative, regulatory, and policy changes to establish opportunities and threats at all levels to develop appropriate corporate positions and advocacy actions in support of advancing our corporate strategy.
    • Work internally, across the organization, to ensure synergy with other business units (Legal and Compliance, Product Development/Management) and collaborate with other business leaders in their engagements, sharing best practices, advising on interpreting cultural nuances, and mitigating risks as well as ensuring compliance with government and ethical standards.
    • Manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously, ensuring stakeholder expectations are managed appropriately.
    • To identify events where BURN can play a leading role in driving industry conversations and where the company’s visibility would be increased as a market leader.

    Skills and Experience:

    • 5+ years of experience working with governments on behalf of organizations or policy initiatives.
    • Significant experience working in international development or related industries, ideally in work that touches on the private sector or social enterprises. Experience working in the Carbon landscape would be an added advantage but is not a must-have.
    • Demonstrated experience in managing large, multi-country teams with varied professional development needs.

    Human Resource Officer

    About the role

    • BURN is looking for a Human Resource Officer who will assist with the day-to-day operations of the HR team

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Onboarding process: the employee will oversee the onboarding process for all new employees of BURN including inducting them through all documentation (contracts, policies, rules, and procedures).  For ex-pats, ensuring that there is a smooth transition to Kenya including the acquisition of an entry visa, travel insurance, flight, and airport transfer to Burn House.
    • Reviewing company policies and training the employees on the changes.
    • Collecting all documentation required for contract preparation from all new employees.
    • Monitoring contract expiry date by managing the electronic employee data sheet and ensuring that employees do not work without valid contracts.
    • Dealing with any HR-related issues brought up by employees and escalating them to management where necessary.
    • Participating in various appraisal meetings for employees and following up on manager appraisal feedback.
    • Managing the filing for middle-level and top-management employees.
    • Performing correct exit process for all employees and contractors, ensuring that all documentation is signed off before exit, medical for factory employees exiting the company is done and all the items that belong to the company are returned in good condition.
    • Coordinating the medical check-up for all employees.
    • Keeping the training calendar updated and ensuring that training needs are well captured.
    • Organizing training and following up with NITA reimbursements.

    Junior Analyst – Field Operations Intern

    About the role:

    • BURN is looking for a Junior Analyst – Field Operations Intern who will be responsible for analyzing and writing regular inventory reports, monitoring stock processes for accuracy, scheduling sales order shipments, overseeing open purchase and sales orders, conducting audits on transactions, reconciling monthly inventory, leading weekly cycle counts, tracking delivery timelines, ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures, and documenting inventory discrepancies for the Field team.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Analyse and write regular inventory reports detailing inventory counts and inventory transactions.
    • Evaluate daily the in-country stock receiving & dispatch process by Field Warehouse Officers on NAV, which is followed with 100% system accuracy.
    • Schedule sales orders shipments on NAV
    • Track daily Finished Goods & Kits open POs & SOs to make sure they’re invoiced and closed in time by Finance.
    • Conduct performance audits and system reviews on all transactions carried out by Ex-works teams.
    • Maintain monthly inventory reconciliations, and produce inventory reports regularly for In-country Field Ops Managers
    • Lead on weekly cycle counts across all Burn Ex-works field warehouses.
    • Track the door-to-door delivery timelines and update on a daily/weekly basis on all shipments.
    • Ensure best practices for all system transactions done by the Field Ops team making sure they’re adhering to set SOPs.
    • Document inventory discrepancies, such as missing or mislabelled items, and ensure the warehouse.

    Mechanical Design Engineer

    About the role

    • Burn Manufacturing is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer for its new electric cooking products. This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of the development of a new revolutionary electric cooking product for Africa. 
    • The ideal candidate will use strong technical engineering skills to create well-supported and reasoned designs. Working closely with the electrical engineering and software engineering teams they will own the final integrated design solution. In addition, they will have a strong understanding of user-centred design. They will use market and user research to inform their designs.
    • As a Mechanical Design Engineer, will work closely with Burn’s production engineering team and overseas partners to bring products from concept to production.

    Duties and Responsibilities:        

    • Support the creation and presentation of visual concepts for new and innovative electric cooking products using a variety of visual communication methods such as sketches, digital illustrations, CAD, CAD renderings, and rapid prototypes.  
    • Design and build proof of concept products to support the development process. 
    • Manage product EVT, DVT, PVT and mass production with suppliers.  
    • Design and develop complex assemblies that utilize plastic injection moulding, metal forming, co-moulding, and electronic component integration.  
    • Support design and material choices with rigorous analysis and research.  
    • Create detailed material specifications. 
    • Create and manage cookware B.O.M with Burn’s production team.  
    • Design and manage testing plans to answer design questions.  
    • Design and create low to high-fidelity prototypes. 
    • Create 2D technical drawings for communication with vendors.  
    • Follow human-centred design practices when developing designs.  
    • Research and develop manufacturing processes as needed to achieve product goals.  
    • Creating and maintaining requirement documents, reports, cost studies, part, and process specification documentation.  
    • Communicating with the respective stakeholders such as hardware and software about the project and their task herein.   
    • Testing concepts and prototypes in the lab and field  
    • Meet with suppliers inside and outside of KE. 

    Skills and Experience:

    • BFA or BA in Mechanical Design, Design Engineering, Industrial Design, Product Design, or similar fields. 
    • Able to conduct detailed costing and BOM analysis.  
    • 3 +year demonstrated work experience in relevant consumer products. 
    • Proficient in SolidWorks and or Similar CAD tools.  
    • Strong technical engineering skills. Able to support material and design choices with rigorous analysis from simulations to hand calculation.  
    • Demonstrated experience with EVT, DVT, and PVT phases.  
    • Experience managing consumer product production outside of Kenya.   
    • Proficient in core MS Office products.  
    • A portfolio of current work.  Candidates will be required to present work samples and or portfolio to demonstrate communication skills as well as their design skills.  
    • Hand prototyping and model-making skills such as basic metal working, sheet metal, wood, foam, 3D print finishing, and painting.  
    • Solid sketching and rapid visual communication skills.  
    • Experience with Keyshot, and Adobe CC (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign).

    Senior Software Product Manager

    Position Summary            

    • Reporting to the Head of Product, the Senior Product Manager will play a key role within the Software Product Team by owning the long-term roadmap and core internal capability by collaborating closely with other Product Managers, Design teams, Engineering and Quality Assurance teams, and other business functions to develop and execute product roadmaps, as well as manage product launches and releases.

    Key Qualifications            

    • Bachelor's degree in computer science, business, or a related field. 
    • 4-7 years of experience in software product management. 
    • Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle.
    • Proven experience in delivering scalable software products in Africa to more than 100k users across multiple markets.  
    • Experience in a Pay-as-you-Go company.
    • Experience in the manufacturing industry. 
    • Experience with cloud-based software development.
