    Information Scientist - 2 Position

    Job Specifications
    The duties and responsibilities will entail: -

    • Supporting the evaluation, organization, cataloguing, classifying, managing and distributing information in a variety of formats
    • Providing support in creating relevant databases
    • Ensuring that information is up to date
    • Support in documenting of information requests from users
    • Contributing to development of promotional material for resource center
    • Assisting in preparation of information audits and inquiries
    • Helping to develop intranets for staff use
    • Support in preparation and maintenance of resource database

    Person Specification
    For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: -

    • Bachelor’s degree in information science or equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution
    • Proficiency in computer application; and

    Librarian

    Job Specifications
    The duties and responsibilities will entail: -

    • Receiving and verifying of acquired information resources;
    • Coordinating accessioning, stamping and labeling of the acquired information resources;
    • Shelving;
    • Charging and discharging library materials;
    • Identifying materials for binding and filing catalogue cards;
    • Coordinating, controlling and tracking of serials;
    • Cataloging and classifying information resources;
    • Entering data into the library databases;

    Administrative Assistant

    Job Specifications
    The duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:

    • Assisting in ensuring effective functioning of the hardware, software packages;
    • Assisting in supporting users in backing up and restoring their files, as well as in virus detection, removal and prevention, and making sure that they are operating at optimum level;
    • Assisting in distribution of software updates, scripting, testing and support adequately and properly;
    • Assisting in operation, technical support and monitoring of personal computers;
    • Assisting in troubleshooting of personal computers, in collaboration with other Information Communication Technology staff;
    • Assisting in maintenance of documentation of all personal computers
    • Assisting in maintaining printers, photocopiers, scanners and other peripherals to ensure availability of service;

    Corporate Communications Officer

    Job Specifications

    • Creating awareness to the public on the Institute’s activities, services and products that ensures continuous flow of information about events and activities for public participation and engagement.
    • Conduct educational and official visits in the institute through orientation within the Institute’s laboratories to offer guidance on relevant areas of interest to ensure the clients satisfaction and maintain good relationships.
    • Circulate official communication to all members of staff through the corporate email to enhance internal communication and coordinate institute activities.
    • Facilitate conferences, seminars and workshops through registration of participants and attending to visitors to ensure their needs are met and the events objectives are achieved.

    • Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following; Graphic Design, Mass Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, International Relations, or any other equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.
    • Membership to Professional body such as Public Relations Society of Kenya (PRSK), Media Council of Kenya (MCK) or Kenya Union of Journalists(KUJ);
    • Marketing Society of Kenya (MSK) where applicable.

    Research Scientist, Biosafety & Biosecurity

     Job Specifications
    The duties and responsibilities will entail: -

    • Assist in developing procedures for the Health, Safety and Environment activities with assistance of the designated safety committee and an occupational health officer;
    • Assist in the day to day implementation of the biosafety & biosecurity services.
    • Participate in health & safety policy reviews and participate in health policy advocacy and guidelines development.
    • Securing of health, safety and environment advisory committee documentation: policy, manuals, meeting minutes and work procedures for accountability and control
    • Implement the Institutional emergency response plan for all KEMRI facilities and collaborative programs to promote a responsive safety culture.
    • Assisting in maintaining the scientific laboratory good practice working condition;
    • Offering trainings on good laboratory practices, emergency response plans, laboratory biosafety and biosecurity practices.
    • Support in carrying out statutory regulatory services namely environmental audits, laboratory inspections and work process audits.

    Person Specification

    • Bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields;- Biomedical Sciences, Health sciences, Public Health/Environmental sciences, Occupational safety and health/hygiene or any relevant medical Science, or equivalent qualifications from a recognized Institution;
    • Registration/certification with a relevant professional body;
    • Proficiency in computer application
