    Senior Lecturer / Professor / Associate Professor, School of Health Sciences

    EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    • Successful candidates must have a BScOT, a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy or a relevant field, and a doctoral degree in OT or related field all from recognized institutions.
    • Successful candidates must be licensed and registered by the Occupational Therapy Council of Kenya (OTCoK)
    • Candidate should demonstrate Professional Membership to relevant body(ies)
    • Candidate should have an interest in working in a teaching institution and commit to growing the profession through the academic and clinical training of both direct entry, upgrade and master students
    • Candidate should have an interest in working in a teaching institution and a commitment to growing the profession through the management of the inaugural Master of Science in Occupational Therapy program
    • Previous experience in a specific clinical setting such as Mental Health, Pediatrics, Physical disabilities, Special needs Children etc is required
    • Previous experience in a teaching institution is highly recommended

    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    • Oversee the MScOT program in relation to the needs and requirements
    • Instruct any core Occupational Therapy courses
    • Set exams, mark and present results for Senate approval
    • Organize for, observe and assess the learning of trainees in the classroom/labs and field/hospitals in relation to course requirements as relevant
    • Carry out a range of administrative work related to class attendance, course outline and notes,
    • CATs/exams, and other learning resources and reports as needed
    • Engage in research and supervise student research projects in the department
    • Maintain confidentiality and impartiality
    • Liaise with medical and educational professionals in the community and counties
    • Promote and advocate for health and wellness for PUEA community in conjunction with others in the School of Health Sciences

    Nursing Lecturer- Midwifery

    ACADEMIC & PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS/ TRAINING & WORK EXPERIENCE

    The holder of this post will report to the Head of the Department in the execution of his/her duties, and will contribute toward meeting the key performance indicators and targets of the department, and the overall mission and vision of the university.

    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    • Teaching and training in the areas indicated.
    • Curricula development and Review
    • Grant writing and Research and Innovation activities
    • Engage in fund-raising activities in the Department
    • Student supervision and mentoring
    • Mentoring of junior staff
    • Publications and other forms of dissemination of knowledge
    • Engage in professional development activities
    • Ensure adherence to quality assurance and accreditation requirements by relevant regulatory bodies
    • To support the Head of the Department and other programme leaders in the department to manage the ongoing strategic development of programs and administration in the department.
    • To assess students’ overall performance, through setting/ marking programme work, practical sessions, supervisions, fieldwork, and examinations, providing appropriate feedback to students.
    • Engage in any other duties that may be assigned by the Head of Department, on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, from time to time.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE EDUCATION

    • An applicant must be a holder of a PhD in Nursing or an equivalent qualification from a recognized University
    • Evidence of peer-reviewed publications, with a minimum 28 points from the time appointed as a lecturer or senior lecturer
    • Registration with relevant professional bodies Experience
    • At least three (3) years of full-time teaching at the University level as a Lecturer OR a minimum of six (6) years of industry experience in the relevant field
    • Supervised a minimum of three (3) postgraduate students to completion as a Lecturer
    • Familiarity with quality assurance and accreditation requirements by relevant regulatory organizations so as to contribute to the accreditation of programmes and quality control processes.
    • Experience in grant writing and demonstrable ability to lead research projects, win bids and generate income is an added advantage
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Evidence of participation in research activities
    • Evidence of fund-raising capability
    • Ability to work in a team
    • Demonstrate a high level of integrity
    • Develop ideas for generating income and promoting the subject
    • Demonstrate marketing capability that includes attraction and retention of students into the programmes on offer in the department

    Lecturer, School of Health Sciences

    • Successful candidates must be licensed and registered by the Kenya Medical, Pharmacy and Dentists Board (KMP&D)
    • Candidate should demonstrate Professional Membership to relevant body(ies)
    • Candidate should have an interest in working in a teaching institution and commitment to growing other health professionals
    • Previous experience in a teaching institution is highly recommended

    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    • Will be housed in the Occupational Therapy Department

    Give instructions on the following areas within the Occupational Therapy curriculum:

    • Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, General Medicine, Medical Biochemistry, Epidemiology, Drug and Substance Abuse, Biostatistics, Emerging Health Issues and General/Systemic Pathology, and any other relevant courses in the Occupational Therapy Department
    • Give instruction in any medical courses in the other departments in the School of Health Sciences, (Department of Nursing and Department of Clinical Medicine, Surgery and Community Health) as required
    • Set exams, mark and present results for Senate approval
    • Organize for, observe and assess the learning of trainees in the classroom/labs and field/hospitals in relation to course requirements as relevant
    • Carry out a range of administrative work related to class attendance, course outline and notes,
    • CATs/exams, and other learning resources and reports as needed
    • Maintain confidentiality and impartiality
    • Liaise with medical and educational professionals in the community and hospitals
    • Promote health education in conjunction with others in the School of Health Sciences
    • Attend departmental meetings
    • Keep up to date with medical developments, new drugs, treatments and medications, including
    • complementary medicine to enhance student learning
    • Engage in quality research in area of specialization
    • Engage in regular mentoring of OT student and provide spiritual
    • Participate in community activities including Chapel
    • Adhere to other PUEA terms and conditions
    • Any other duty assigned to him/her
