    Power Engineer

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Supervise installation of low, medium and high voltage networks and equipment.
    • Prepare basic and detailed engineering specifications, designs and drawings for power system projects including generation of associated bill of quantities.
    • Undertake operation and maintenance of various power system equipment for overhead, underground, indoor and outdoor power networks for low and high voltage levels.
    • Undertake design and implementation of renewable energy systems such as Solar photo-voltaic (PV) technologies.
    • Provide technical assessment of tender submissions for power related projects.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Hard skills and experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent from a recognized and reputable engineering institution.
    • Minimum of 7 years’ hands-on experience in design, construction/implementation, testing and commissioning of power utility infrastructure such as electricity generation, transmission and distribution.
    • Experience in operation and maintenance of low, medium and high voltage systems.
    • Experience in solar PV system design, implementation, operation and commissioning.
    • Experience in preparation of tender documents and tender evaluations.
    • Experience in power system protection and power flow analysis will be an added advantage.
    • Proficiency in Auto-CAD, PVsyst and other engineering design and simulation programs.
    • Registration as a professional/graduate Engineer with EBK.

    Substation Control Technician

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Under the direction of the Power Systems manager, this role is pivotal in ensuring the effective operation and maintenance of the electricity grid at Tatu City.

    Key responsibilities:

    • Install, maintain, and enhance electrical systems and components, including MV & LV components, fuses, lights, and wiring following established codes and standards.;
    • Document daily operations, repairs, and service information while managing inventory and equipment calibration.
    • Conduct routine inspections, troubleshoot electrical system issues, and implement preventative maintenance.
    • Respond to information requests, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
    • Prepare written documentation for substation maintenance reports and electrical systems, ensuring adherence to codes and standards.
    • Implementation of preventative maintenance on electrical systems and timely troubleshooting and repairs.
    • Coordinate between the delivery team, contractors, project managers, and third-party suppliers.
    • Timely response to information requests and commitments, while ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures.
    • Assist in training apprentices, and perform other duties as assigned, adapting to evolving responsibilities as directed by management.
    • Monitor and maintain the optimal functioning of substation equipment, performing switching operations, and adjusting loads and voltages as required.
    • Conduct routine inspections of substation equipment, inside and outside, making minor adjustments, repairs, and ensuring proper facility operation and security.
    • Acts independently during an emergency by performing duties in rapid succession involving switching, adjusting load and/or voltage, or extinguishing fires
    • Provide accurate, insightful, and timely reports, memos, and presentations as requested by the management.
    • Ensure company policies and procedures are followed by the team members.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Hard skills and experience:

    • Diploma/ Higher Diploma in Electrical Engineering (power option).
    • At least 5 years’ experience and a proven track record as a qualified power technician.
    • Must have practical knowledge and experience in HV systems (at least 33 kV and below) such as overhead lines, underground cables, and transformers
    • Experience working for an Electrical utility company will be an added advantage
    • Relevant training and certification in network operation and switching and authorized to operate high voltage equipment by any licensed utility or operator e.g., KPLC/KETRACO etc.
    • Be alert to danger and practice the highest safety standards.
    • Experience in operation and maintenance of 11/33/66kV substation and electrical network including maintenance of indoor and outdoor MV switchgears.
    • Experience in substation testing, annual maintenance, and primary and secondary injections.
    • Enhanced skills in locating/troubleshooting and quickly repairing defects in electrical systems.
