Role Purpose:
The purpose of the PMO Resources Manager is to manage resource supply and delivery planning of the global IT technology staff. The role acts as an interface with the London based PMO team running global change projects, and project managers and team leaders across the global IT team, ensuring alignment of resource management plans.
Contract Duration: 2 years
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
- Working with the Head of Portfolio Management, Reporting, and IT leadership, develop and maintain a view of the diverse portfolio of IT projects and other demand.
- Prepare and manage an IT resource map up to 1 year in advance, predicting spikes and troughs of demand from across the portfolio. Ensure that the IT and PMO leadership have accurate information from these reports to make resourcing decisions in a timely fashion.
- Working in partnership with the Portfolio Planning and Resources Manager, develop, implement and embed best practice capacity and resource management processes, and tools, for all initiatives within the portfolio. These will be included in the Project Manager toolkit that defines the working practices.
- Working in partnership with the Portfolio Planning and Resources Manager, drive the allocation of IT resources to a regular beat: monitor activity, dynamically manage resource allocations and keep all stakeholders informed.
- Consult regularly with key stakeholders to ensure that their IT resource needs are being met, and provide management information to them to help them model their project costs.
- Work with resource owners to identify opportunities for utilising low cost FTE solutions as the default resource supply, falling back to contractors and partners where needed.
- Assist in the development of flexible supplier capacity where appropriate.
- Provide data to the Head of Portfolio Management and Reporting on capacity as relevant for decision-making.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Proven experience of supporting the successful delivery of projects across multiple geographic locations as part of a PMO
- Demonstrable experience and knowledge of programme and project practices and standards
- Experience of project and resource planning tools, e.g. Project Online
- Demonstrable understanding of IT staffing methodologies, using a mixture of FTE, FTC, Offshore, Near shore, partners and suppliers
- A proven ability to apply excellent analytical and problem solving skills, and to work collaboratively to deliver of effective solutions to project related issues
- Highly developed organisational awareness and ability to understand any sensitivities within a complex multi-stakeholder structure; and think creatively and strategically to overcome obstacles to cooperation and progress
- Strong team leadership abilities with the ability to motivate and mobilise individuals outside their reporting line
- Strong business requirements collection, and process/workflow analysis skills
- Excellent communication skills (written & oral English)
- Cultural awareness and experience of delivering solutions internationally
Desirable:
- Experience of working with or running global IT change projects around back office systems
- Non-profit sector knowledge/experience
- Proficiency in a second core language of Save the Children (French, Spanish, Portuguese or Arabic)
