    Accountant

    Job Requirements:

    Reporting to the Principal Accountant- Student Accounts, the holder of this position will responsible for supporting the day to day running of Credit Control Unit, Student Accounts.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Review and approve Student Tuition Fee Payment Plan Applications and ensure payments are received as per the Terms and Conditions of the Payment Plans.
    • Enforce all Credit Management Policies and Guidelines across USIU-A, to ensure full compliance that supports the liquidity of the University.
    • Conduct Annual Analysis of Student Debtors for Bad Debts and Write – off Proposals as per the USIU-A’s Billings and Debtors Management Policy for posting in the System.
    • Work closely with the Principal Accountant – Student Accounts, to ensure that Bad Debts are provided for as per applicable Reporting Standards e.g. IFRS 9.
    • Conduct Quarterly Reviews of Bad Debts, written-off and submit Report on any Bad Debt Recoveries.
    • Monitor Student Accounts with Credit balances to ensure that they are in line with the University’s Policies and any relevant Government Regulations.
    • Monitoring of all Accounts of Students receiving Financial Aid, to ensure that they are financially cleared and their Accounts reconciled.
    • Prepare Monthly Debtors Reports and Reconciliation of Credit Control related Ledger Accounts.
    • Liaise with external Debt Collectors to ensure effective collection of Student Debtors.
    • Safe custody of all Post-dated Checks and monitoring to ensure that they are banked and receipted on the due dates.
    • Prepare a Daily and Weekly Clearance Report and movement of Student Debtors, Recovery and Collection of all Debts.
    • Follow – up on all Outstanding Debts with regular communication to Students and Sponsors through Calling, Sending email and Text Reminders.
    • Respond to all enquiries concerning Outstanding Balances to Students and Sponsors and Supervisors.
    • Allocate Printing Credits to Students, Staff and Faculty Members per Semester.
    • Providing ad-hoc Reports as requested from time to time.

    Qualifications/Education/Professional and working experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance and CPA (K);
    • Member in good standing of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK)
    • Certified Credit Professional (CCP) will be added advantage.
    • At least 5 Years working experience with Minimum 2 (two) years’ experience in Credit Management and Debt collection.
    • Proficiency in computer applications;
    • Proven ability to analyze larger sets of data and strong attention to detail.
