    Duty Remission Officer

    About the role

    BURN is looking for a Duty Remission Officer to lead in duty remission reconciliation per applicable laws and regulations. The successful candidate will work closely with the Supply Chain Manager and will be well versed with Custom systems procedures, import and export documentation, logistics and operations.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Prepare an annual plan for duty remission based on sales forecast.
    2. Update and maintain a log of raw material utilization as per exports done.
    3. Maintain a log of actual exports based on quantities on export entries.
    4. Ensure proper record keeping of all related documents including Duty Remission, inbound items, clearing documentation from KRA.
    5. Prepare bonds for submission and approval by the insurance company.
    6. Ensure approved bonds are lodged by KRA and bond numbers issued.
    7. Arrange for collection of original bond documents from KRA and submit to clearing agent for lodging of import entries.
    8. Maintain filing system for Duty Remission and VAT exemption documents as required by law (C56/60, Bonds, Import entries, Export Entries, C17 tracker).
    9. Share weekly report on duty remissions applied/approved vs all material imports received.
    10. Update and maintain a tracker/log for all approved duty remission schemes and reconciliations.
    11. Lead in duty remission reconciliation and avail all supporting documents for presentation to KRA.
    12. Follow up with insurance companies for a refund of premiums paid for duty remission (and VAT Exemption where need be).
    13. Any other jobs assigned by your supervisor.

    Skills and Experience

    Essential

    1. Diploma Level or higher in a Procurement or Logistics Discipline.
    2. Strong Excel Skills.
    3. Experience in Customs system and procedures.
    4. Experience in handling import and export documentation.
    5. Experience in handling Duty Remission applications and reconciliation.

    Desired

    1. 3 years’ experience in Logistics and Operations.
    2. Experience in ERP systems – preferably Microsoft NAV.
    3. Detail Orientated and highly organized.
