    Pharmaceutical Technologist

    PURPOSE OF THE JOB

    • The main purpose of this role is to ensure that patients with diverse medical conditions receive tailored pharmaceutical care. This involves collaborating with healthcare teams to customize medication for our patients' unique needs, considering dosage adjustments, alternative delivery methods, and specialized formulations for various medical complexities. Additionally, a key role is played in medication management protocols, education for caregivers and healthcare providers, and monitoring for any adverse reactions or interactions, aiming to optimize treatment outcomes and improve the quality of life for our patients.

    KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Review and verify doctor prescriptions for accuracy, completeness, and potential drug interactions.
    • Utilize the health medical records system to process prescriptions, including insurance verification and generating medication labels.
    • Identify and clarify any prescription discrepancies, contacting the doctor for clarification when necessary.
    • Accurately measure, prepare, and dispense medications according to prescriptions.
    • Package medications with proper labeling, including instructions for use, dosage information, and potential side effects.
    • Maintain a sterile environment during medication preparation, adhering to aseptic technique.
    • Counsel patients on the proper use of their medications, including dosage instructions, potential side effects, drug interactions, and storage requirements.
    • Answer patient questions clearly and concisely, demonstrating a strong understanding of pharmacology.
    • Educate patients on the importance of medication adherence and the potential consequences of non-adherence.Maintain accurate medication inventory levels by monitoring stock and placing orders for new supplies promptly.
    • Rotate stock to ensure first-in, first-out (FIFO) practices and prevent medication expiration.
    • Perform regular inventory stock take and reconcile discrepancies.
    • Ensure medications are stored under appropriate conditions according to manufacturer recommendations.
    • Prepare customized medications according to the doctor’s orders and established protocols, following aseptic technique for sterile preparations.
    • Maintain accurate compounded medication records, including ingredients, quantities, and dispensing information.
    • Adhere to all relevant pharmacy regulations and standards, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Good Dispensing Practices (GDP).
    • Participate in quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy and safety of medication dispensing.
    • Maintain detailed documentation of all pharmacy activities, including dispensing records, waste disposal logs, and inventory control logs.
    • Maintain a clean and organized pharmacy environment.
    • Participate in ongoing professional development activities to stay up-to-date on new medications and regulations.
    • Participate in release committee meetings to set payment figures for clients in the Neuro Program.
    • Update the copay sheet regularly in liaison with the head of community development.
    • Ensure all medication is paid for as stipulated in the copay sheet and payment agreements in liaison with the Community Development Team.
    • Preparing accurate and comprehensive weekly and monthly Pharmacy reports.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Doctor in charge.

    Qualifications

    • Diploma or degree in pharmaceutical technology or a related field from an accredited institution.
    • Certification from a recognized pharmaceutical board or association
    • Valid license to practice as a pharmaceutical technologist.
    • Previous experience in a pharmacy setting preferred.
    • Proficiency in pharmaceutical calculations, medication preparation, and compounding.
    • Knowledge of pharmaceutical laws, regulations, and best practices.
    • Effective communication skills and ability to interact with healthcare professionals and patients.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and manage time effectively.
    • Commitment to continuing education and staying updated with advancements in pharmaceutical technology.
